I've been there too. On one of my fwd cars, the transmission seal is in a tunnel that is over 2' from outside. So it's damn near impossible to get close enough to properly seat the seal.

One day I took the seal to Lowe's and found a PVC coupling that is a perfect match for the seal side. Then bought a 5' length of pipe so it would reach through the tunnel and give me enough room on the outside. It's like an extended reach seal press. I do the initial seal placemen by hand. Then put the press on it and tap it into place.

I get someone to spot tap on the pipe while I look at the seal tell them to tap on the pipe at different clock positions. I used shorter pieces of PVC for seating seals on the front diff of 100 series.

I see people struggling with seal installation and offer this suggestion. Though it is quickly rejected because it's a tool that doesn't cost over $100.

    Right??
I'm going to say 99% of people who own land cruisers should not be anywhere near them. On my formal regional forum on ih8mud we would get a post a week asking for a "land cruiser expert mechanic in the area", dude it's glorified farm tractor that was made to fight guerrilla warfare in 4th world countries or cart around oil royal families in the sandy desert, you can fix it with your pants belt, channel locks and some old grease, it's not a damn F1 car... Butt hurt ensues as they cry to the rest of the people at the accounting firm that the mean rednecks on the internet wouldn't help them out and told me to fix it myself, meanwhile giving their CC number to the toyota dealer for a $150 oil change on their 33yr old vehicle.

Hahaha you all in the state will be making fun of me about March when it gets hot here. I was at one of my facilities in SC and was sweating my ass off and it was "only" in the 80s last week.

Yea we get that up where I'm from in illinois as well. 90s and 90% humidity, I go into hibernation in the summer and emerge in the fall. I can get used to the almost 3 months of mid 70s and no humidity here. We got maybe 1 week of that back north. It was either hot and humid or cold and humid.

I need to figure out how to install AC in the garage at the place I'm buying, there are like 4 windows that open so I'm already ahead of my old place with no cross breeze or anything.

Yup that's most of the posters we would get. My favorite are the "baseliners". Start it, if it doesn't smoke, shake, or spew fluids everywhere you are GTG. But but but I need to restore it back to factory specs someone help me!!!!!

Seems like a really helpful bunch of people over there, and a refreshing number of DIY'ers. Sounds like the DIY part isn't exactly optional though unless your name is Scrooge McDuck.

That was yesterday for me and my wife, getting ready to have a good 1st Halloween with our daughter then around 2pm my wife gets hit with food poisoning, right when my sister, her new boyfriend and my 9 yr old nephew come over. So my wife's either in our room sleeping or throwing up in the bathroom the whole time, I'm trying to entertain people while watching a 10 month old that's in total stranger danger mode.

We didn't even get to put on her costume we got her, but at least she's young enough she won't remember haha. Next year will be more important

Overall it's a bunch of incredibly resourceful people. Many have their own shops. I think I've noticed a few that may be private mechanics. Others have been with LCs for decades. I've noticed a lot of machinists and engineers that make custom parts.

For the relatively small number of LCs that were sold in the US compared to other Toyota truck models, they have an incredible level of enhancement and aftermarket support. We see new vendors coming up with more stuff all the time.

Oil change done on the Acura. Shouldve trolled the 3rd genners with my choice of oil and filter.

Oreillys store brand oil and a Microguard (cheap) filter ftw.
