Hi, got a 2001 V6, TRD, 76k, seems like a lot of maintenance issues, timing belt, lower ball joints, value cover gaskets, etc. my truck at this time is good, but ..... looking ahead, is it worth it? I’ve never did that much maintenance on any of my Toyota cars, just drove them till they died, all over 250k

Its a 19 year old vehicle, not sure what you're expecting. None of what you listed is all that complicated.

It’s 19 years old, they aren’t issues if you keep up on them.

There's a saying going around that says "I'd rather buy a high mileage vehicle with lots of maintenance records than a low mileage vehicle with no maintenance records"

There are no other trucks like our 1st gens out there, and the cost of all that maintenance will be less than a car note on something new

I guess you have to expect a lot of maintenance, on these trucks. Love them or leave them.

Bingo. If you hit them all at once, its can be a little overwhelming. Taking care of things as they arise is key.

New cars aren't really much better, either. Spend enough time on reddit.com/r/justrolledintotheshop and you'll know what I mean. If anything, they're even more complicated and not as cheap to work on.

You can expect a lot of maintenance on any 19 year old vehicle.
really the timing belt, if original, probably needs done. Then you’re good there for 100k.

Same with the ball joints, if you get quality

Valve covers are whatever to me, mine have seeped for all of the 520k miles between my two trucks I’m sure

is it cheaper to maintain the truck you already have? or to buy a new one and have that cost... plus maintenance costs on that vehicle?

Issues - or maintenance? Nothing lasts forever, and keeping up on maintenance helps avoid surprises.

I think it might have been cheaper to buy a 19 yr old Toyota car and drive and drive it till it dies

Don’t forget tires, and oil changes

    Or bearings, batteries, air filters
