I dont think time management is something that any small company has mastered haha. I just call it job security.

For sure. My last boss refused to even attempt to plan a project. 100% seat of the pants, all the time. Then he'd micromanage on top of it.

 

The funny thing is it's not a small company at all really, we have offices in NY, Hong Kong and London but the one I'm at is the headquarters

With all the furloughs and layoffs this year though it definitely feels and operates like a small business now. I think that's part of the problem really, no one here is used to it lol.

 

Eh, I dont mind working on my toes. Can be annoying at times but then I remember the feeling I got when I interviewed at big companies. It wasnt a good one. To them you're a replaceable pawn with nothing but a to do list minus any of your own ideas.

 

I just hate the last minute shit that requires working well past 5 (when I normally leave), once in awhile is ok but on the regular isn't, I don't clock overtime being on salary for one thing and my family time at home before my daughter goes to bed is important to me.

If it's a project given early in the day that runs late is one thing, but those constant last minute this-needs-doing-before-you-leave projects that require a solid few hours to do right are what grind my gears.

I vent on here because I have to swallow my pride and get it done on the job lol.

 

It really depends on the company. I'm at a company 100x the size of the last one now, but my group is far better run, more skilled, and they actually get shit done. Its far better for morale. Also, I have a weird combination of skills that they need desperately, so yay job security. That said, I'm sort of at a company within a company, so that may be why I have less of the cog-in-a-machine feeling.

Last company was just...listless. Boss would have me work on one thing, change mind, work on another, change mind. I had a dozen projects in 4 years, 90% of what I did is sitting on a hard drive, abandoned, because they changed directions. When you're working and creating things, but they never see s the light of day, it eats at you.

 

My pops thinks he might have Covid, if he does he'll be the first in my family to get it that I know of.

Hasn't given me much info other than he feels sick, could just be a cold since it's that time of year. Told him he should get tested though esp being over 60 yrs old and in the most susceptible age bracket

 

Yeah the regularity of those oh-no-we-forgot-and-need-this-yesterday moments really sucks. Makes it feel like they really don't have a good grasp of their processes. We get alot of stuff thats o-shit, but its literally o-shit-somethings-fucked and not just someone forgot. Which still sucks, but its less grating. And we get comp days, which is nice. Can you get your boss to give hours back? Like work an extra 2 for four days, get a day off?
