lmao I'm Petroleum Engineering... don't know if we could get too much farther apart. Really smart of me to pick petroleum engineering 4 years ago because now that I am graduating this market is garbage.

Most of the stuff I do now with data sets I'll do on excel now because it is faster than hand calculating and the nice thing is if you calculate it all with formulas in excel it is pretty easy to correct a mistake and everything else will calculate for you.

I was gonna go Petro, but decided to go Environmental cause it not going anywhere. Hoping to still end up in Oil and Gas for as long as I can after I graduate.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. Really is a luck of the draw when you get a new one and plug it up to a PC. Sometimes its no sweat to connect, other times its hours of cussing at it and pinging it before the software recognizes it.

Never heard of it. Each manufacturer has its own trashy software that youre supposed to use to plug in the devices Mac address and locate it on the network then write it an IP address. Problem is that none of these softwares work 100% of the time.

My college professor had a degree in networking and he pretty much said youve just gotta deal with it.

I am still hopeful but I’m just looking at anything technical right now that sounds interesting. Tempted to get another dirtbag summer job this summer and delay actually having to work more as this is kinda the last summer I can get away with that but who knows.

Ah ok. Yeah we have a switch in one of our devices that wanted its own software, but under the hood its all just SSH or HTTP.

Wireshark is free and lets you see the packets going in and out, whos saying what, etc.

I think it used to be called Ethereal back in the day.

But yeah, its still a network sniffing tool. That and ones for serial have saved my sanity, either in the field or when the programmers say something works but is clearly very broken

I was thinking about it. Trying to put some more effort into engineering stuff before I do but we will see what happens here soon.

Have em add a whole sub panel with 100 amp service.

That way you can have the welder, big air compressor, and everything else you haven't thought of yet

Or a piece of paper in an envelope with a tracking number stamped on it. If he's lucky it'll at least be written on a Subway coupon or something.
