probably, picked these up to replace the bald bald for running errands and stuff. The axle seal put an end to that though.

I'm not pulling the third to replace the inner axle seal and I don't wanna pull the hub off and repack the bearings and do the outer seals either

Wait, the outer seal on a floater requires you to pull the third?

whoever did this FF conversion fucked up.

the outer seal doesn't retain oil, just keeps shit like water from getting into the axle tube. There's an inner axle seal in the axle tube immediately outside the diff on both sides to retain the gear oil.

That's a weird design, not something I'd be jazzed about either

Yeah, not something I realized when I purchased this setup. Basically it was setup as a SF axle and the axle seal setup seemed to be an afterthought during the FF conversion

No way to cut a shaft seal into the spindle end?

theres two seals on the spindle end. One on the flange the spindle mounts to and one that backs the inside of the inner wheel bearing/race. I suspect the one on the spindle flange wears out prematurely because the toyota axle OD is larger than the D44 shaft OD it is spec'd for. I couldn't find one in the catalog that had the same seal OD and better ID though.

The seal inside the axle tube is this race style grease packed seal. eventually the gear oil washes the grease out and makes its escape.

I could convert to 8 lug if I wanted but I'd rather swap to a stronger axle and diff too
