My mother’s 2020 4Runner limited is dead. Dealer did an oil change Friday (first oil change) and didn’t tighten the drain plug or oil filter. Oil evacuated the engine while she was going 75 on the highway. The dealer had a tow truck out there within minutes of the call. General manager and service manager showed up with a loaner vehicle not long after that.

Well that’s a big ol fuck up. Make sure you pressure them into a NEW engine. Not a used engine. Unless said used engine is equivalent or less miles than the old. You can also typically get a longer power train warranty out of this mess

In all the years at the dealer I’ve only ever seen one 4runner engine die. And it was at 87k miles with its original oil....

Yeah the hard part will be pressuring my parents to pressure the dealer. You can tell the dealer is scared with how quickly they dealt with that.

Well if they don’t make it right there’s a huge issue of dealer image and of course lawsuits. I’d just make sure they fix it right. It’s a new car. You don’t want to deal with this on a new car and potential headaches from them replacing the motor. A warranty and a new or less than current mileage motor would be the thing that makes it right. We had to eat a motor on a car a couple years back thanks to a lube tech. Guys 10k mile car ended up with a 100k power train warranty and the engine was assembled by yours truely. New head, new short block... new engine basically

The D3 fits it’s just taller.
G2 has been phased out in my region and is now the D1

Nothing truly fits the 3.4, the oil filter is in the dumbest place and orientation possible.

Meh. Never bothered me too much. I use use a filter claw under the alt. The part that sucks is the mess it makes

It's not terrible on a completely stock truck I guess. Still should be relocated. Changing the BMW oil is easier and that should never be the case lol

I’ll be figuring out a relocation when I get to that point on the taco. Probably put it in the same location the tundra has it

Poking a hole in the top of the filter then letting the pan drain with the oil cap still on helps mitigate that.

God forbid you forget to replace the filter after though

Yup that's me. Replacing the filter after draining the pan. Wasting about 64 shop towels in the process.

    Yeah, filter always comes last.

I'll stab a hole through it next time.

I hate that, it just dumps out right onto everything, no way to really catch it. The cruiser hangs off the side of the block perfectly perpendicular to the engine and it only leaks an easily catchable drop. You can do the BMW filter and oil without spilling anything anywhere.
