I'm not that old, not that you're very old either... but I get what you mean. I'm in the garage or someone else's garage or taking care of the house if I'm not sleeping or at work. I cannot stand people that just sit around and play video games or watch endless TV or scroll memes and tiktoks to oblivion. Like I get an hour or two here or there, but how boring and worthless is your life that you would rather just be sitting around like a lump than doing something engaging.

For sure. I got rid of my TV specifically so I wouldn't be tempted to sit down and flip channels. I still can with the projector, but it requires more commitment so I don't. Reality is so much more interesting than whatever contrived crap they put on TV these days.

I'm also referring to the outdoors. So many outdoor spaces are so crowded these days that if you want to get away from the crowd, the best way is to find a place that someone can't get to just by driving there. The harder it is to get to, the quieter it is.

This is true as well, I like that aspect of wheeling the way my group does. It's not solitary by definition but at least with those folks, we get along so well solitude isn't necessary.

man, if that isn't one of my beefs with the trails close to denver, too. If you don't get there before 7 am the parking lot is already full and the trail is swimming with people. You're hiking through crowds like you're at the mall and dodging wanna be influencers posing for photos at any remotely scenic point of the trail

one of the last times I went to visit my mom and sister we went for a hike. Got to the TH at around 1030 am and the parking lot was only half-full. We passed less than 10 people on the trail. Oh, and it was only 10 minutes from my mom's place, too.

Yep. National parks are like this too. Absolute madhouse in camp, and the easy trails are crowded. But you can strap on a backpack and get a day out into the backcountry, its calm and quiet.

    Influencers are the worst though.

i'm not saying that the entitlement mentality is exclusive to SXS because I've run into jeep and tacoma owners who are the same way... but it seems to be proportionately worse with SXS owners driving wherever they want off trail and generally pulling more shit and being less courteous on the trails.

I haven't seen a street legal rig roll on the trails around here in person. At least 1x a year I've encountered a rolled SXS because they were fucking around and going off trail, going too fast, etc

last summer we were behind a SXS group on a trail. I was stopping every 15 minutes to pick up their empty beer cans that were chucked on the trail

I get that hiking around here too. I found a empty beer bottle in a bag first, and then proceeded to fill it to capacity with other crap just walking back to the car. Makes me wonder what these peoples houses look like inside.

Yeah I do the same thing kayaking. I've already found 2 5 gallon buckets, a tarp, a couple of bobbers. There's a baby doll head out there too I'm going to get next time, but its in a good spot for a creepy picture so I'm doing that first

I've had it a month and am averaging once a week so far. Weather has been weird, and I've got some other stuff going on in addition to work so I don't always get out. But I joined a local paddling club last week and they're pretty active, so I expect I'll get a bunch in this summer.

Last year when I was up on the mountain doing a snow run with some other TW guys, we finish the trail right where it dumps out on the side of the highway. Some family gathering was happening in another turnout area and they were all getting in their van.
After they drove off, they left behind 2 enormous trash bags full of garbage that immediately started blowing around in the wind. So fucking lame. Me and another guy filled our trasharoos up with their nasty shit.

The desert out here is even worse, people treat it like a public dumping zone

You'd think after a lifetime of burning the shit out of my mouth eating a hot slice of pizza, I'd learn not to do it repeatedly

'surely it's cooled down enough in the 5 seconds since I last tried'

    nope
