Not sure if this would help but I have a set of 4runner roof rack caps. These replace the racks when you take them off. You can have them if you want to try it.

Hmm let me think about it, appreciate the offer! Would have to trim them to fit the xtra cab but could work well to cover up the rivnuts after plugging the holes.

What is the length you need? These are on the shorter side do to the sun roof.
I'll bring them with when I head down this month.

Are we past the unsolicited advice stage?

Since you don't live in the PNW or the NE those rubber caps with RTV as a backup would be all that I run.

Ya but I fear they would get brittle and break apart after a couple years.

The rubber well nuts that the rack mounts used to hold them in place were brittle and breaking apart when I took the mounts off. Would hate for that to happen with the plugs and find out after I get water in the headliner

I need to remove my factory rack again and seal things up again with RTV. It's been about 4 years since I had it off and the rubber gaskets for the rack feet I cut out are starting to crack

Just get a 4Runner; non-leaking roof rack, more room for the fam, and available with a locker :burp:

Speaking of 4runners, I did 38 miles yesterday, she is road worthy.
