    You've got integrated graphics, that require cooling. Most just have a heatsink on said motherboard, but they need air passing through to cool them down.

    You've also got your power supply.

    Last but not least, dedicated cards, such as a graphics card, get hot too and require cooling.

    Solid state drives don't have any moving parts to require cooling, and hard disk drives don't burn themselves up exactly even if you're moving tons of data.

    I ran an open loop on an old pc, and currently a closed loop cooling system.

    Both systems had radiators with fans that sit on them to cool them down the way your car/truck would.

    Except that, the computer is stationary. That's when you've got static pressures vs airflow that come into play to keep the whole system cool.
