Meh, its what you get when you mix poorly trained operators, overly rushed management, and an inherently unsafe reactor design.

Nuclear anything is one of my favorite subjects. Crazy history.

I've done a mod or two
That LS swapped 1972 Chevy Suburban I've been working on is pretty much done now. Finished up pretty much all the wiring minus the fan controller and finally got to give it a good run through the gears. Definitely running rich so we'll have to pull out the jet kit for the Holley and figure out what it needs. But overall I'm very pleased to be able to drive it for the first time.

Genuinely happy with how my M. Balfouri morphed into its colors. This specific tarantula was a gift from Pinay (before she got banned).

Here it is, all dark and ugly looking -

    20200402_091559.jpg

Here at this point, it's molted a few times and the lignter grays are coming in -

    20200408_201345.jpg

Here it's a little bigger, but the contrast is still subtle -

The infamous threat pose; you do NOT want to get struck by an Old World -

    20200806_225957.jpg

After another molt, the contrast is even greater but the legs are still lacking color -

    20200928_192441.jpg

    20210103_232844.jpg

And it's most recent molt; beautiful vibrant blues are starting to show -

Once fully matured, the body should be a slight bit more brown with bright blue legs.

"Socotra Island Blue Baboon" or, scientifically known as, Monocentropus Balfouri.

I grew up riding around in a 1990 suburban 2500. Love those squarebodys. Whats the overall plan for this one? It sounds fantastic.

    @eon_blue @Taco critter

Friday afternoon and all day Saturday I spent a lot of time cleaning and rinsing the LX470 carpet. It was a very dirty mess. Layers of dirt with some staining from red drink and red clay.

With enough cleaning, it looks decent. Through an off-road rig with an off-white carpet is going to be a maintenance nightmare. I want to change the carpet to some oak color carpet like my Tacoma.

After cleaning the carpet was soaked and needed to dry. I had evacuated up any remaining liquid with a Bissel Pro Cleaner that I borrowed from a buddy.

Many years ago, after the kids grew up, I discovered a Fisher-Price Nursery Heater/Fan in the garage. I gave it a try on a car carpet cleaning job that I had going and it worked. It blows warm air on the carpet and tries it out. Usually, I can dry the carpet in the hot summer sun without much need for a heater.

This year it has been raining every day. Having this old Nursery Heater was a game-changer for the car carpet cleaning project.

Sometimes the things you get for your kids come in handy years later for a completely different purpose.

This one is my buddy Stu's old daily. His other main vehicle is a Dodge 2500 with a Cummins so it doesn't make much sense to drive around town. He doesn't even like to drive it much for fear of damage cause it was his late father's. The Suburban is a C10 Suburban, so 2WD, and he'll drive it even in snow haha. It's a nice daily actually, or it was until the old small block 350 tossed the timing chain off. So it went into his shop 4 years ago and finally me and another friend urged him to put a spare built LS (LH6, all aluminum 5.3) into it instead and we would help get the wiring and mechanical sorted out. Stu has a big shop and lots of tools, but he's more of a big picture guy. So a lot of my free time lately has gone to making this thing run and making all the wiring pretty and safe. This LH6 has a Brian Tooley stage 4 truck cam, Holley Brawler 650 carb, Holley dual plane 300 intake, and MSD 6LS electronic mappable ignition, bottom end is just stock truck bottom. It's mated to a 700R4 (which I don't care for) and has a 3.73 posi rear. It's pretty damn fun honestly, we're almost done with it, fan controller comes in this week and it'll be wrapped up.

The wiring and the air cleaner have been cleaned up and changed a good bit since the pic was taken.

I've joked about getting a black one with plain wheels with little hub caps and a dark window tint Wear sunglasses and drive around like somebody important.

Awesome!! The 69-72 years had the best front end of anything chevy ever made, IMO. Good of you to help him get it running again.

What transmission would you prefer over the 700R4? At least it has an OD. Our suburban had a 454 with a TH400. 12 MPG, always. Unless you're towing, then its like 8.

Also,TIL you can put a carb on an LS. Never really thought about it actually.

I love square bodies but I'm more of a 73-80 kinda guy haha. I really would have preferred a 4L65E or a 4L80E. I'm spoiled by modern electronics and I like the little programmable controllers for the electronic transmissions. I've adjusted the TV cable 6 ways from Sunday and still can't get the 700R4 to stop short shifting, that's why i was rowing the auto myself in the video (and even then I only ran it out to 4k). At least with the mini trans controllers you get nice control over line pressure, lockup, and shift points with the push of a few buttons. The 700R4 is just a 4L60, but I didn't spec it out, not sure what it was for originally. So maybe the stall or the valve body aren't right for the engine and rear end setup. At least with a TH350 or TH400 you have a vacuum modulator so the shifts are close to peak torque, but losing OD is a deal breaker so 700R4 will have to work, just needs some more tweaking I get.
