    Agreed Kubota diesels are the best bet for a working compact truck

    there's a hacked together 1st gen with a 4bt that pops up for sale every couple years. it popped up for like $6k and I had to talk myself out of that trap

    If I was gonna build a 2wd regular cab toyota errands truck with a diesel I'd shoot for a built VW ALH. 250whp and 400tq ish should be pretty zippy in a light truck....

    of course a 4.8l LS would be a much easier swap:)

    stock is only like 90-100 hp... but they are really zippy in the jetta.

    My mom keeps threatening to sell hers and I keep asking when I can pick it up.
