Synthetic rope and wireless remotes almost make winching almost fun.

I'm sold on the wireless remotes though.

I've run the winch from behind the wheel to pull myself out. That was convenient.

Smitty X20 12k. Amazon was having a pre-Labor Day sale with a $499 price. Then went to my local 4wheelpart store where they had it in stock and bought it for an Amazon price match. Then got their extended protection plan warranty for $71.

I think my bumper is rated for an 8k winch, so it's way more than I need. It works out ok on the LX470 with an ARB bumper because I can open the hood and expose the clutch control. Otherwise, with an ARB bumper, you need a Warn with 8 clock positions to get the clutch handle where you can easily reach it.

At the time I needed to buy so much to finish the build, that a $500 winch was welcome compared to one that was $1,500 and considered Warn bling. I took the $1,000 and bought some White Knuckle Off-Road sliders that I really enjoy. I can always dress it up with some Factor 55 if anybody cares..

The part of the state where I live and go offroad isn't plussed by a Gucci recovery bag like some places. Ha!

I see that Smitty X20 winch is op over $700 now. I think people figured out it must be a decent winch.

I've done a mod or two
I do it on ones where the design makes it possible. Small blocks and LS are super easy to pack em full of grease or vaseline

Seatbelts came out looking much better.

Eventually, I want to replace the carpet with a cocoa brown.. Something that doesn't show dirt like the almost white carpet that it has. It cleaned up and I guess its ok for a rig that's really only for off-road use.
