They're practically domesticated in our area. I've seen them use the cross walks at an intersection before

I've seen deer do that here. They even waited for the light to change.

Huh, I've always just seen it as 2, 1 or L for low gear. Wouldn't think most people would have a clue what engine braking is

Yeah same. And you could put it in 2nd to start out on slippery stuff. Maybe with traction control they decided to simplify it.

Thing has too many buttons, and the visibility is pretty mediocre. Meh.

I understand that new cars have all these blind spot monitoring features and curtain airbags. But why does the visibility have to be so terrible. I won't check out the ford explorers at work because I hate them. I always check out the base model 07 Trailblazer which is perfection for me.

I assume it has something to do with aerodynamics and structural integrity. Gotta make some perfect shapes to get that last bit of mpg, which requires support in weird places and fat pillars.

    It’s a guess anyway.

I think the answer is partly in the question. Those side airbags take up space.

That and, as @0xDEADBEEF said, aerodynamics and structural integrity.

It's only making me sound more and more like a boomer when I step in a vehicle made after 2011. People think I'm dumb or don't know how to drive. No I'm just adjusting to this spaceship and how it literally relies on little LEDs in the mirrors to change lanes. And how the back window is literally just there for decoration.

I'm also just now realizing that with all the unibody crossovers copying one design they essentially made the back window useless. If the third row sits higher than the front seats then you can't possibly have a usable back window. Gas tank and donut have to go somewhere I guess.

And also obsolete three years before the car hit the dealer lot. I weep for the youth of the future that will inherit those devices.
