When I was painting full time I was warned about the guy who used to wash his hands in mineral spirits at the end of the day every day. He died of liver failure in is late 40s or early 50s. I think about it a lot and try and be mindful of what solvents and oils I get on my skin and try and be safe when possible

Nice, you must be excited to be getting to setup shop and be working at a place that makes you feel valued

I didn't even think about plasma table and or cutter, I can see that being needed especially with the 1/4 sheet aluminum we use for hand saw frames.. he's already getting me a tube bender but regretfully it'll be a manual hand one cause we bend our own 1/2" hydraulic tube (1" square tune for some frames)

I am very excited! I was valued at the electrical shop but not shown the appreciation I'm shown here.... probably that fish size to pond volume ratio thing:laughing:

Oh hell yes! I plan on getting the ship busy enough I can hire a second in command out there and they can build stuff while I take time off:laughing:

That's the American dream right? Be well off enough to take personal time while your company is still making money?

Mineral spirits is one of the worst for sure, the toluene in brake clean absolutely cannot be good either. I'm trying to get better about wearing gloves for more things. Always have em for the parts cleaning tank though

yeah, I've noticed some of the gloves melt under the brake cleaner bath and it isn't particularly reassuring haha

ZEP Industrial Purple (great cleaner) will turn gloves to jelly and skin to pain in short notice.

That's why Cali paint and brake cleaner both don't work

I'd get a waterjet table for aluminum if it's the primary use case , plasma cutting AL over a water table is not safe https://www.esabna.com/us/en/education/blog/can-you-plasma-cut-aluminum-on-a-water-table.cfm

I'm really liking the ZEP products i've tried

they have a drain safe enzyme based cleaner that really helps with the funky smells that the garbage disposal and P traps get every now and then

I dunno, I think the exploding toilet that @Wulf posted yesterday was even weirder. Supposedly it blew up because lightning hit the building and came out through the toilet. Imagine if you were sitting on it when that happened
