It was just the thermostat. I knew when none of the fans were spinning and the compressor tested fine something was odd. Normally you can get the thermostat to work by moving it back and forth. This one was just truly dead. I'm now debating a used eBay $20 part or a new $50 part.

Is he a longterm salesman? Different industries but when I've been the behind the scenes guy in heavy equipment shops I've learned the salesman that talks the most is usually one of two things: 1, a shark that's low-key trying to bully a person into sealing the deal or 2, a total dunce that lives by the adage "if you can't baffle them with brilliance, bore them with bullshit"

That second group of salesmen are the fucking worst even tho your gut says the shark should be worse... when I've been forced into sales at those shops due to shorthandedness I've almost always accidentally convinced customers to spend more money on high quality equipment just because I listen to what they want and explain practically what can be expected from each tier of equipment

You other comment on 2 ears 1 mouth is spot-fucking-on

Do you own the fridge or is it apart of the rental? If you own it, 50 bucks is worth it if the alternative is only 20... if you're being nice to the landlord and he/she owns the fridge, than the 20 dollar part all the way

I own it. I ended up going with a $20 used one from a recycler. It's one of those things where I'm willing to bet on it to save $30. I hate the appliance industry and how expensive parts are.

My high school auto shop class did an oil change on one of those. I drew the short straw and had to pull it into the lift. I barely knew how to drive stick at the time, so that was somewhat terrifying. Once it was on the lift, we could only raise it a few feet off the ground because it was so tall.

Somewhat related, there was an old Toyota dually with a stake bed listed for like $8500 on local craigslist today. It disappeared in about six hours.

Would one be better off with the N/A engine? Is the boost at least enough to justify the cost of premium gas and the MPG hit?

Many supercharged 80 owners would say yes but they've also sunk lots of money into alternative fueling, methods of cooling the boost, cooling system upgrades, etc. That air to water intercooler certainly makes it a lot more enticing. But anybody with the Whits end turbo kit will tell you that the supercharger ain't shit. And they'd be correct. The supercharger as usual for Toyota is a little too small and tends to create more heat than it does usable boost. It certainly more lively with the supercharger but with how much these rigs drink I'd want a lot more if I have to start running premium. Keep in mind the best gas mileage you can hope to get is in the 14s on a naturally aspirated Land Cruiser.
