Amber clocks are 01-04. The ring all you need is an amber LED

I've been trying to buy a tablet PC to run Gaia GPS in the truck. Stores around here have plenty of WiFi only tablets. I bought an Apple IPad Pro Air at Best Buy with WiFi thinking I could run a mobile hotspot. Turn out those models don't support GPS off-line. I just returned it. Android just pushed out a new release of the OS last week that seems to have knocked out some GAIA map save and GPS functionality. I need to keep my Android phone for a couple of work applications that are for Android only.

So I'll need to get some type of Apple to run GAIA GPS. Not much selection right now for Apple with GPS.

    I have mods
Or just get an Android head unit. That's what I have in the 4Runner, although I use OnX instead of Gaia. Gaia was designed more for Apple anyhow, so works better and has more features there. From what I've been told.

I had picked out a Samsung tablet with GPS that looked good. Then the new release of Android seems to have jacked up GAIA when it comes to saving specific maps. All of the people in the off-road club around here all seem to be using Apple for GAIA GPS. Tutorials and instructions are focused on Apple users. I like to record my own maps. But when I tried to make one this weekend, I got an error that the record function cannot work without cellular service. I've made mapes in the past with patch cellular coverage without a problem.

Ah that sounds frustrating. Weird that cell service is required on an app that is designed for being away from civilization.

    I’m still rocking a Garmin 60csx

My kid uses OnX on the same Galaxy A12 that I have. I've been out with him when he was giving directions (turn here, then there) and GAIA GPS couldn't find shit. I should get him to set up OnX on my phone. The new head unit has Android car play.

This is supposed to be one track from a GPX that I opened. I can't separate out the noise on the phone app. The phone app is so jacked up that it's almost dangerous.

    upload_2021-8-29_8-27-13.jpg

On the Web site, the map looks like this and should be similar on the phone. This is a lot different than the convoluted mess on the phone app.

Yikes. Seems like they can’t keep their own data straight between versions/platforms. Not confidence inspiring.

It still blows my mind that the normal business model now is to develop a product with venture capital, get tons of users, and then figure out how to make money off it before going broke.

Having worked in venture-backed software companies... I wouldn't take VC money (especially 3+ year old VC money) as a sign of imminent success or quality.

VCs are having a great run if 3/10 of the companies they invest in turn a profit.
