My 98 has one but the lock tab is broken so it flops open at stops and slow corners.

I bought a magnet to "fix" it but it never made it past my fridge.

I guess the locking gas cap was probably a dealer option when buying? Don't have one on my 04

I think the locking fuel door disappeared with the '01 facelift.

Not sure if it was standard or optional prior to that.

    Do it, no balls :luvya:

Funny that the owner at my dealership never said anything considering I had the closest parking spot so he had to walk by my 4R at least 10 times a day.

Sounds dumb. Even my '99 4runner has a pull inside, you can't open from the outside. The '99 taco has a locking door. My Golf's unlocks with the doors. I think my Saab is the only one without any type of lock - it only has the anti-siphon I believe. No excuse to remove a basic feature you once had.

The lock tabs do have a tendency to break. Or maybe seize and then get broken. There's even someone on the forum here who came up with a design to 3D print new ones.

My Civic's fuel door latch broke years ago and I had to pull the carpet inside the trunk to remove the mechanism. I guess it was a common point of failure on those cars, too.

I thought locking fuel caps/doors were more the exception than the norm?

Mine used to get rough but I simply removed it, cleaned, and lubed it. Haven't had a problem since.

I was under the impression the interior pull tab was the norm. I think even my mom's old Nissan Quest had one when we were kids. The Golf R is about on par with a new Tacoma TRD MSRP, which has an automatic lock on it 7 years ago, so I would expect at least something. I know its sorta apples to oranges but still.
