The Taco is my money pit too, but only because I made it one, if I didn't insist on upgrading and modifying it would be cheap to own haha, the cruiser breaks rarely but parts for them are costly compared to the taco.

ditto, well sorta, the SC demanded lots of other things to make it play nice but the wheeling is hard on the suspension and bearings and such

The saga of wheel restoring continues. Used some paint stripper to remove the old finish. Man I hate that stuff, messy as hell. Then hit them with my pressure washer to remove the stripper/ old finish flakes. Next will be hitting them with a wire wheel and then lots of sanding. Going good so far. These thing were off a former New York truck, corroded BAD.0625181053.jpg 0625181105.jpg

Well I don’t think they’re meant to be driven on like a race truck.

I feel like slow and steady is more what they’d be for.

Classic case of engineers vs. machinists...

Just look at Battle Bots. You can tell the guys fresh out of engineering school vs. the machinists/builders.

On the one hand you have these systems that are super efficient and lightweight, but their multiple pivots and complicated drive systems just get liquefied by the machinist who just built a rig with a 100 pound steel bar that spins at 1000 rpm.

That's what conventional tracks are for, too...

"How do you frustrate an engineer?"

"Tell him to use the thing he designed."

Oh I know that’s what they’re meant for, when he said a desert trip I just assumed he meant a high speed trip.

The only thing I can think of that Has tracks and can handle the speed is a snowmobile.

Even then, sleds aren't that fast. I mean, they're fast for a track vehicle, but a 60 ton M1 and hit 50mph...

But shouldn't that be the point of going to a wheel? Speed?

It looks like what we have here is a "wheel" system that isn't capable of speed because it has the same limitations as a tracked vehicle, being that it still has a track, albeit a round track; all the disadvantages of a track (slow, lots of moving parts), yet none of the advantages of a wheel (speed).

A better solution is to just keep a set of conventional tires in the bed, and switch them out when you need to hit high speeds.
