I can tell you're from Southern California just by looking at the trees. Haha.

Man driving with that air compressor on the interstate was absolutely terrifying. You could feel that weight.

 

Is the price really that bad if you want OEM? Ideally, I'd like to do OEM since they've lasted this long.

 

Thanks, I look into those. I don't want something that will overheat & die or take forever to fill up to 35" tires. Hoping not to spend more than $200 if possible.

That's because it's a trailer. This is a giant metal tube strapped to the bed of your truck that's top heavy.

 

It's still not part of your vehicle. If you had that car in your truck bed, there would be a huge difference than if you were towing it.

Viair 88p is a nice solid portable unit. I keep one in the cruiser and Z

 

Think about it. It's a hollow metal cylinder that has all the weight at the top of it. The cast iron compressor, the electric motor, etc. A majority of the weight is at the very top.

It's also six feet tall so it goes 3-4 feet above the roof of the cab, creating drag.

Oh yes it was. Picked up mine an hour away from home on the fwy. Took probably like 3 times as long to get home. That thing was top heavy like a mofo. Kept pulling over to check it cause my buddy & I could have sworn we felt it shift a number of times but it never did. If I had to do it again I would just lay that sucker down.

 

It weighs about 300 pounds. And you absolutely do not want to lay an upright air compressor sideways.

 

I would be afraid of oil seeping into places or out if its on its side

 

Nah thats the best, with the safety cap off, and something big and heavy hanging right above it

When I replace my OTREs I won't be buying OEM. Heck despite what everyone says & yes I have seen the thread of the cutaways, I don't even run OEM LBJs. My Moog 555 LBJs have already lasted longer than my OEM ones. In fact I just purchased a new set of Moog LBJs this morning with todays ebay sale.

 

It's more of you don't want oil getting into places it shouldn't be.
