Tundra/Sequoia screens are too big for me. I wish they had delete options but so much is tied to into them now.
(The version of a touchscreen in my truck is just me tapping on the clock to get it to turn on.)

No worries, I don't think any of us are disagreeing here, just making conversation.

I'm just saying that I am one of those "well established" buyers you talk about. I may be the exception that proves the rule, but I still don't typically pay cash for large purchases like cars. I'm not looking to establish my credit, but maintain it. From what I've been able to gather by reading the tea leaves of the overly complicated and secretive cabal that is the US credit rating agencies, they seem to value consistent credit, among many other mysterious things. It's not like once you reach a 700, you keep it for life.

This whole conversation started by being rejected as a cash buyer so he went elsewhere, mostly out of principle - totally understandable. But for me, depending on the loan terms, if they had the car I wanted at the price I wanted, I wouldn't have hesitated to take the loan, and just pay it off the next cycle or 2, or how ever long made sense. I'd totally walk if the terms were such that they included prepayment penalties, etc... but that can often be eliminated by using my credit union's loan, etc...

One thing I'm generally not willing to compromise on is ending up with the car I want. So for me, what I was is the car, the "best deal" is honestly secondary. I've never been teh type to go around to 6 different dealers and spend all day wheeling and dealing to save a couple bucks.

Anyhoo, I enjoy seeing everyone's different perspectives on these topics.

This is my favorite part. There are a few times in my life when I've "overpayed" for things, but I got what I wanted, I could afford it, and I didn't waste a bunch of time on the chase. In the end I feel much better about those purchase than some of the things that I've gotten "deals" on.

It takes a lot more time/effort/money to convert to 4x4, paint the color you wanted or manual swap the trans cause you settled on something with a better price.

Then again... there are times when I've taken a deal that needed a lot of work because I thought the experience would interesting or educational. I guess it depends on my mood that day, or my level of interest in the thing.

Some deals are too good to pass up, and if you know what you're getting into then there's less buyers remorse.
