Why is it everytime I see a welded diff it is done wrong. No plate, spiders welded to carrier, and it usually looks like the first time they've held a welding gun

My thoughts as well, it's the cheap option so it must be done poorly too

    All valid complaints LMAO

I also like the ones where they fill teeth on the spiders to make it like a mini spool instead of welding the gears together.I couldn't trust it.

Really how hard is it to cut two rectangles and weld em to the spiders, hell weld the spiders where the teeth are meshing too...

I had to scroll way too far to find a passable example when googling welded diff. Welding is meh but strong on this one.

ngl this one does look like a time bomb. I'm going the 1/4 in steel plate route in mine when I pull the trigger like @Wulf

Well, fucking school is canceled today and Monday because some dumbass tested positive.

Must wait a full '5 days' to return :jerkoff:

Will use this time to pull out the LC's stereo and check the wiring on it as the speakers aren't done right.

I wish I could understand how people screw up stereo wiring so bad. I was swapping head units for people long before I got into working on cars.

Every used vehicle I’ve purchased with an aftermarket unit has come improperly wired.

Chances are someone installed a stereo without pulling the wiring to the amp, sub amp, dash channels, and 3rd row channels, you should only have door speakers hooked up when using an aftermarket headunit it or resistance will be too low since the factory wires a lot of speakers in parallel on the stock system and the amp is designed for the low impedance.

    Same!

And what blows my mind is that they're all the same....every damn wire has 1 purpose, nothing more. The only time it's different is if the stock setup has an external amplifier, and even then, it's just finding or running only a set of speaker wires.

I suspect it could be in the door panels, but pulling the headunit is much quicker to get to so I'll start there. I have work today otherwise I'd spend the day dicking around pulling panels and everything else out.

    Fuuuuxcckkk :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Reminds me of a time (when I was a residential plumber/HVAC apprentice) we were trying to plumb a well in the middle of winter. Foot of snow on the ground and the 6ft diameter spool of well pipe was too cold to unravel into the well hole. So they put in the back of the service truck with a torpedo heater on full blast 2 ft away from me and the reel we propped up on the fitting shelves. It was soooo stupidly hot I almost passed out trying to rotate the reel while the other guys fed it into the well. It was a 500ft well, so not gigantic, but not small either

After we got done I flopped outta the truck in basically my underwear and was so thankful for the snow drift to fall into and cool off

I was considering the fact that "multiple speakers" may be wired up as you described.

I would want to eliminate any built-in amps, etc. and simply run the front 4 speakers off the headunit and that's it.

I'm unsure what I'll find if I had the chance to pull the trunk/hatch side panels. That shelf/cargo setup needs to get pulled first before I could do that though.

Cause people who are excited to share pictures of a welded diff are usually first time welders

Why use plate when more wire fill space just as gud?

Its really easy to wire it up, the stock wiring is fine too, you literally just have to unplug the stock amps (one in the void behind the passenger dash speaker and one next to the "subwoofer") and unplug the dumb dash speakers and the dumb third row speakers... voila now its just like a tacoma and you can wire it exactly the same

Oh before I forget, since you mentioned factory speakers being run in parallel...which I assumed they were maybe 8ohm units, the previous-previous owner put in aftermarket door speakers. So if for now I only get the fronts, that's half the battle.

I didn't take good pics when I did all this stuff but fitting speakers in the doors of an LC is a nightmare since there is no depth. I did lots of shit to make mine look stock and still sounds good. The stock speakers are 4ohm I'm fairly sure, I still have em somewheres

Funny you say this. Mine just went out and I can't get the pilot light to start up again. I can hear the pilot light go on, but it won't return to "normal" operation. I'm hoping there's just a battery in the controller that's out or something (status light doesn't flash at all).
