He doesn't even need to take a week off. Hell, fly out and then rent a one way setup and haul it home. 2-3 days max. Bring along a buddy and drive straight thru, back even sooner. Done.

I make about half as much since going on my own working from home as a mechanic. But my happiness is up 1,000%. I do food delivery or detailing cars on my days off. I do mostly lift kits, and I choose the work that I want or do not want. Some jobs are not worth the squeeze.

my goal is my own shop. eventually. right now thats not an easy task. The market out here also lends itself more to repairs than modifications. but eventually i'll make the move. for now. the pay and the training makes it worth it.. plus the $2000 a year in tool funds from the employer is making it not soo bad.

its just getting time off for more than a couple days thats utter hell.

Maybe it's where I live, but ALL my work is Tacomas and 4runners. I'm booked a week out. Mostly lift kits, but I also do maintenance/mechanic work. I take on anything except for big jobs like engine rebuilds. 99% of the jobs I do are in and out the same day.

Most folks would rather take their money to a well reviewed independent guy, who charges half the price, than get hosed by the dealer.

How would you recommend getting started (marketing wise) if someone wanted to do this as a side hustle?

I think I saw a 200 rolling across it at the end. Sometimes these things look worse on film than in real. I'm so heavy that I wouldn't flip up.
