1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

It's really not that hard, people don't like doing 'em? Seems like one of the easier things to work on.

 

The annoying part is breaking the stake nut loose and torquing it since I don't have a jig to hold the shaft I'm using the gearboxes and the brakes.

 

i work at a toyota dealer full of lazy people... me and 2 other guys do all the "hard" work...

 

I wonder what kind of engine I should throw under it. The v6 it has is pretty powerful, but it's on its way out and I can't read German so I want to hallow out the car entirely and just keep the stock body, and interior and do my own mechanical systems.

Do I hear 4BT 5-Speed!?

 

How is working at a Toyota dealer? Ever see any interesting cars?

 

i usually throw the shaft up on the truck and attach it to the trans to hold it... but this is easy on a rack.. duno if id do that at home

ive worked on supras and shit.. but its mostly just oil changes on camrys, ravs and shit... they honestly dont break down much... most interesting car i worked on was a maseratti we had traded in.. hell almost bought it.. 2002 spyder with the ferrari v8 and a 6 speed manual

 

I have the truck on the ground, buddy held the brakes since even in 4wd and 1st I was still moving the truck.

 

A Nissan engine? Huh!

I kind of want to make this car the complete opposite as Mercedes intended it to be. Replace the fast engine with a torque-y Turbodiesel engine, and replace the drivetrain with - y'know, a custom rock crawler tubed frame.

BUT I want to keep the interior and exterior as close to stock as possible. Just for shits and giggles.

personally i think a merc with the toyota 1.8l 4 cylinder would be hilarious.

 

I love me some VG engine action. The diesels don't do much for me, rock crawlers don't need a ton of motor anyway, just gearing. Rather not have the weight of 4 3rzs over the front axle.

 

Someone traded that thing in for a Toyota?

coulda bought it for 28 grand.. but i didnt.. 14k miles on it.. green.. thing was sexy. one of 2 manuals made in that combination too... oh well

 

rav was like 27k i think. so she didnt get screwed out of money too bad...

 

How big is the engine bay? A diesel would be cool but a small block chevy would probably be easier
