Yeah, got some free tickets from work! Also went to overland expo for the first time. They had some pretty cool stuff

 

The amount of hate and pushback I've received from people that eat this kinda shit up (more so the water from air snake oil machines) makes me very scared for the future

 

You mean I can't drive an alternator off my electric car's wheel and recharge at the same rate I expend?!?!?! Law of conservation of energy my ass, I'm trying to conserve but science won't let me... buncha eggheads ruining my freedum.

 

Yeah. There's a disturbing lack of basic physics knowledge, or even just critical thinking ability out there. Add onto that people are so so so defensive of whatever position they've ended up on. Not sure what to do about it.

 

The free energy videos on youtube are a special kind of horror/entertainment

 

My favorite are all the ads I see advertising some breakthrough "scientist" that big energy is keeping down. The most recent one is some guy that's going to shatter the world of air conditioning and it's clearly just some mini swamp cooler a Chinese company is peddling to people that don't understand what evaporative cooling is.

 

People eat it up, and can't explain how it actually works, but will defend it to the grave.


My favorite one from a while back was the 'browns gas' or 'HHO generators', where people would use electricity to break water into H2 and O2 then feed that into their engine and claim rediculous mpg gains.

 

Oh man I remember those. Why does no one question credentials anymore. They hear "This award winning scientist" or "Former NASA (ya know cause the average idiot doesn't know about JPL) Rocket Technician" and immediately what follows in the ad is somehow granted all manner of belief. Like really people, it's an advertisement... It has no obligation to tell you the truth.

 

But they tell you alternative truths that Big ________ won't tell you!

 

The attention span of the internet collective has gotten so short its like no one remembers the coat yourself in oil then walk out in the rain to fly memes
