Gotcha, that's actually not bad for the bill you're seeing. Usually I've found it takes a $25k system to hit those numbers, which is like 10kW. You're more normalized then rather than the ups and downs of the seasons.

I usually hit $250 in August and am as low as $60 in the winter here so I average out to around $130/month with just grid. But given my use profile I would still be paying more like $60/month on top of the solar in the months I would even need it so payback was ending up around the 40 year mark for a retail system.

I've come to the conclusion its not fun having a car you can barely ever use to its full grunt. All I'm doing is waiting around for breaks in traffic or waking up super early to go on runs when the city is empty (or at night) to let it eat. Doing pulls at noon in traffic ain't for me lol. Its just a toy really and if had the cash to have it as one it wouldn't be going anywhere, its so fun, but as it is, as a daily, I can't click with it. So I'm going practical for now.
TBH it kinda cured any desire I've had for anything performance related. At least living in a city and as a main vehicle. But no regrets, I'm glad I gave it a go.

We didn't know that we couldn't shop for a different provider/system so it was a little scary at first but apparently they're partnered with the developer so the guarantee of customers allows for lower rates.

In my old 1 bedroom apartment in Salinas, I was paying $90-110 with the same provider...and I was gone 5 days a week all day working :bananadead:

Won't even talk about my other house...that's on a private electricity provider :bananadead::bananadead:

The ironic part is solar is a chunk of the reason PG&E rates are so high lol

    That's hilarious.

Makes sense though...CA is basically forcing everyone to go efficient, electric, blah blah blah.

And they're going at it at every front from low water usage toilets and faucets (good thing really, we're always in a drought), banning the sale of gas-powered equipment like leaf blowers and mowers and stuff, the requirement for solar on homes built 2020 and later, and more.

I suppose I should elaborate so I don't get accused of the P word again...

California has all but outlawed coal and natural gas (coal is gone and NG is on the way out), there are no new opportunities for hydro, there's not a lot of room for wind farms, and they're still scared of Nuclear. So what you're left with is a primarily PV-based fulfillment to serve the ever-continuing load growth.

PV has the huge caveat of a terrible, yet fairly regular capacity factor of about 20-30% which serves at max output in mid-day. This forces California to buy power from its neighbors in all other periods of the day. They take a lot from here in AZ around the Palo Verde hub (nuclear & natural gas), from Nevada (gas), and even Utah where they have built their own fairly large pumped storage plant (hydro). Doing this means they not only pay for that power, but more importantly the transmission to get it there (called "wheeling"). The more systems you wheel across, the more expensive the transmission cost per MW. So while they "go green" in their boundaries, they actually just import "dirty" energy from everywhere else and charge its residents a premium for the..luxury..of not having it.. 'nearby' I guess?

Now, they've (the nation as a whole actually - looking at TX especially) has finally realized renewables are not a baseload substitute and need to couple PV with storage to be viable. And guess what? Battery storage is still expensive asf, and not exactly a clean product. So more PV = bad, storage = good, both = cost increases overall.

I actually kinda wish AZ would take the water as seriously as CA is, but I can kinda see the seethe at CA since they basically lawyered their way to the first rights of the Colorado from what I understand. But I just want to protect the water rights of our agriculture here.

    Fuck yeah :fistbump:

Not sure you caught that earlier but when you had texted me, I had just gotten home.

Had to get the wife's car towed last night, and though it was an easy fix, killed a good 2-3 hours of my day yesterday.
