@Kwikvette Do you have much experience/insight to the dealer auction process from your days in the biz? Might have a quick Dm question

I've only gone to the auction a handful of times...maybe a total of 10 in the +10 years I've been in the business.

The way it's run at Manheim, certain companies have their own lanes IE Enterprise, govt agencies, etc.

Several run at the same time so I was there mainly to watch what certain vehicles were selling to used car buyers (lots) and seeing how expensive low production models were going.

If there's a Better Business Bureau does that also mean there's a higher authority like some sort of Board of Better Bureaus

Gotcha. My Subaru dealer offered me X amount straight up for my Mini, but also said "or we could take it to auction and start at that amount and see how it does..." but my original purchasing dealer offered me like a grand and a half over that Subie dealers quote. Was trying to decide if I wanted to roll the dice on an auction but I think I'll prob just take the sure thing

The way we did it, if we ever pulled that favor for someone is, we agreed to buy it at "xxx" price so just assume that's the worst case scenario.

Then whatever they made extra, minus transport costs, they wrote you a check for at a later date.

Granted, every dealership is privately owned so policies and procedures will be differ.

You can roll the dice, but if it's something they do often, I'm sure they have an agreement or addendum of some kind for you to sign.

For us, we did it on a Statement of Facts, which is a publicized form.

Yeah that's basically what he said, you'll at least get what we quoted and if at auction it goes higher, that's in your pocket too (or toward the trade in this case) If they had offered the same as the other dealer as the base, I'd no question go that route, but as-is, it makes me jumpy.
Luckily the dealer owner is a family friend, not sure if that's worth much but they're doing zero markup on anything I buy from em, so that's something.
    Thanks man!

@Kwikvette Also as a BTW/FYI...I'm not sure if your wife was really ready to jump on a Forester or not, but since they're about close '22 orders, the wait time is actually reasonable right now, at least from my dealer. He said I'd have it in September, which is nuts coming from Japan.

Sucks that the zero markup thing is a 'perk' in this case.

I left the car business while we were still in COVID, and though we still sold our cars/trucks at times without negotiation (because, the ball was in our court, we had cars when others didn't), we still didn't mark anything up.

Not a TRX, Hellcat, GTR, Corvette, nothing.

    Shit that's awesome.

We're going to wait until next year to really pull the trigger on anything; wedding coming up soon.

Yeah some here have been doing zero markup for locals (Like the BMW dealer I worked with) but if you're out of state, you get a hit. Never in my life would I think the new car market would be this bananas.
Never thought I'd be jumping into an old man car but here I am...embracing it

Definitely makes sense. That's certainly a higher priority.
