I made a smelter out of a trash can similar to that one. I used a smaller size made out of slightly bigger gauge steel and lined the inside with a Terra cotta pot. Filled the void between the pot and the can with special curated cement. But that I mean I took a bag of ceramic brikettes (which were intended to evenly spread the heat on a propane grill) and crushed it into a powder, then mixed the powder into the cement mixture to increase its heat resistance. Ran the smelter off normal charcoal brikettes for a grill and a hairdryer lol.

Worked like a charm for aluminum, could even get hot enough to do bronze. But I ruined it attempted to melt down mild steel, which is cool cause I was amazed it could get hot enough to melt brass by itself

That's badass. I love casting, but I get annoyed with aluminium so I stick to PVC  my dad and I have built a few forges over the years for pounding steel. that's fun!

Kilns are usually made kinda like abeyancer made his smelter, tbh

My neighbor with a really clean 98 Tacoma just came over and asked if I had the tools to do tie rods. So I think I just made a friend anyway lol

I just cross-referenced this conversation with the drive through Titus Canyon.

-100/10 would not recommend being there in a flood.

Fun story, and topical... I saw an F-150 for sale with "muffler delete" listed in the description.

I did the delete haha. That's a 4cyl automatic frame and I manual swapped her. So I used the transfercase style mount from Front Range Offroad which give you the bonus of being able to go flat belly.

Ah cool, I did notice that brace and was wondering about it... but I'm only used to seeing the underside of a standard cab. Who knows what sort of things you long-wheelbase folk have going on underneath.

I'm pretty sure your tinnitus was made worse from that trip.

As far as the second time you am I were there, I remember being real uncomfortable with the first hike we did in the rain lol

It's made a fan or air conditioner mandatory for me in quiet sleeping areas haha. I still get my best sleep camping
