What went horribly wrong for us is the old man owner started this business in his garage in FL and he's never grown out of the mentality that a business is run just fine like that

Yea the issue is that he won't let me go through the accounting books to be able to do that. The shop manager (who came from a job shop) is supposed to be helping with that but I've come to learn he's too much of limp dick to stand up to the boss and put his foot down... just does whatever boss man says even if it's a bad idea

 

I've never seen those but they look super handy, i usually just use the 90 deg magnets or some woodworking corner clamps I found in the gutter lol

Honestly 3/8 is overkill and only our large diesel powerpacks need anything that large. Biggest thing I personally bend is 1/4 and I'm able to do it with my harbor freight press and homemade dies lol. Something a little less caveman is all I need

 

I mean for us as hobbyists, it makes sense. No one wants to invest into something we don't make money off of

*ignore our Tacomas, Land Cruisers, etc in this statement*

but I figured 20-30 bucks is a worthy investment that'll really have you working smarter not harder.

My c clamps are from HF cause I can't see myself spending the 80-150 bucks on those nice ones at the welding stores.

 

I don't see a frame hanging 5 inches below the rocker

I found some smaller clamps at an estate sale but they’re not beefy enough for steel. Usually I make do with a square and some bar clamps, but those ones you posted look way better.

 

That really sucks.

This would require a huge level of patience, and discipline, but you could just write notes and take pics (keep the pics, they'll be time stamped so you can match your notes) of all these purchased parts.

Once you figure out the amount of material you need, you have a huge part of the puzzle already as far as costs go.

Then add the labor for drilling, bending, whatever prep work required for said parts.

Total up the cost for all these parts that were assembled on/purchased and for what machine or job.

Leave it with the boss and just offer "whenever you have time, I thought you may want to look at these. This is your true cost to manufacture XXX parts for all the jobs we did for this month"

Also include notes for how long each job had to wait for said parts to come in. The important factor here is turn-around. This can in turn increase efficiency and bring in more work.

And more work, means more money.
