I think what you're paying for with the high end welders is longevity and repairability. Was talking to the counter guy at praxair last time and he said he really liked the vulcan welders, which are made in India and sold by HF, but none of their repair people can get parts for them. Where as they can get miller and lincoln parts all day long.

Tell you what, join the Primeweld FB group.

The shit I see on there is what got me to buy my machines.

Customer service is stupid top-notch and on the rare occasion where you did need a part, you got that shit no questions asked.

Might take your word for it, I haven't signed in to facebook in years.

I remember seeing somewhere that someone had a problem on a Saturday and someone in the US picked up the phone when they called. Rare these days.

So I wanted to revisit your question, after today's MIG and TIG test.

I feel way more at home at the local shop. I know "5 mins" is usually an estimate we use for a lot of things...but that place is literally 2.3 miles away making it super close at a legit 5 minutes.

I was upfront both yesterday and today with my lack of experience, especially in TIG and told them I've only played with TIG and never did it professionally. I killed it (meaning, did really well) with the lap and butt joints, and did pretty good with the T.

Lead guy brings me coupons that a "TIG welder with years of experience" did last week; the two base metals weren't fully joined on any of the tests

    Wish me luck :fingerscrossed:

The man has an impressive natural talent. In my slapped ass experience of seeing "professionals" that have done it for years, as well as some of the shit that has passed QC for some big equipment companies (looking at you Speeco) he blows em outta the water

I assumed you meant someone else until you posted again

That's genuinely the nicest thing anyone's said to me in a very long time. Thank you Jimmie

(with the exception of my wife, damn how does she put up with me and be so sweet)
