Cut my mtbike ride short because I was really struggling to the point I was gonna wreck and cruised the back highways for a quarter tank instead

Building 31+ on the tow tune and she rips. Good enough for now. Probably should still clean the EGR at some point.

I do really want a CNC table.

So...your 14 year old brother, blueprinted and cut any and all pieces of square tubing, angle, and flat used and made a perfectly square setup?

At that age, who sponsored the control module and programming software as well?

There's a reason why at minimum they're over $2k and that's without height control.

 

He made a rudimentary one out of plywwod to make a better one our of mdf

The sliders were just off ebay, the motors were just generic stepper motors off ebay, the computer was just an old ass PC running windows 86 that he converted to Linux for the sofware... all theread and acme nuts are a thing

My dad bankrolled the whole thing not sure how much it cost but it would be way cheaper to do now vs than I'd immagine

It used a router and just cut wood but with some fab skills metal and a plasma torch would be doable

I'm talking cnc plasma table. Have mentioned it here before.

No way in hell wood would be incorporated; I mean you need that shit to ground to start an arc to begin with.

 

Our craiglist is covered in cnc table spam when you search for plasma cutters. Makes me want one too.

Or perhaps a blast resistant trash can...

 

Could you use extruded aluminum?

 

You don't want to ground through stepper motors threaded rods or slides

Ground goes direct to the work

The cnc plasma at my highschol was made of extruded aluminum which isn't that expensive tbh

 

I'm sure I can, but steel is cheaper and personally I don't see myself going through the effort of making one myself.

Would rather buy a turn-key package.

Yeah, without a good way to cut material its hard to do much. Moving from a hacksaw to chopsaw was huge for me, but if you're looking more at doing sheetmetal and plate, a plasma would amazing.

 

Got spoiled using a nice bandsaw for most of my stuff, until I left one job for a better one and finished school. No more bandsaw for me unless I go to my old job and ask my old co-worker for a favor. That can get old quick.

I'd go hot saw but I absolutely hate how dirty cutting with one can be. I know cutting with a cold saw like the Evo I'm contemplating still throws out bits everywhere, but they're larger and much more manageable. Then there are times where I consider a small bandsaw on its own stand; I will most likely go this route.

Having a plasma cutter is stupid convenient, but that's best for flat stock or sheet like you mentioned.
