rods are the same as all the 1uz vvti's and 3uzs. the only ones that were beefier were pree vvti 1uz. earliest ones being the beefiest. why? cost.

I guess it it depends on what you are looking for. Ive raced my 2nd gen. Like legit raced it on road and dirt mix at 60-80 mph for 1-2 miles at a time. Bone stock w bfg a/t's and it was super impressive. Not as predictable and stopped for shit but compared to the RZR, not crazy behind.

the 4.0 isnt a slouch. its just making power up higher. i like the smaller trucks for fun stuff. something as big as the 2nd gen i really just want for towing. hence the tundra. i cant even stand driving modern full size trucks.

Yeah, I feel ya. I towed my RZR with it. I think it weighed 1900 plus the 1200lb trailer and it didn't like it up any kind of hill. Basically a shitty truck to tow over 3500lbs.

the tundras only rated for 7300. but honestly towing 7000 lbs.. it handles it really well. and im under geared. it cant haul as much as our ol f350. but what it can.. i rather use it over the 350

Man. idk if you have seen what i have dealt with, but you can make it work. Enough hammering and massaging anything will fit.

    What one?

Been busy all day; doing my report now.

    I do.

Sold my 6700K build with GTX 1080 TI earlier today so now I'm just needing to finish this custom shelving so I can pick up my neighbor's RTX 3080 which will be a huge upgrade.

    Loving my 12400

Oh I heard somewhere that the 2UZ couldn’t handle as much power but he must’ve been referring to the early 1UZ.

Funnily enough I read on the forums somewhere that conrods are kind of a weak point on the 5VZ as well.

    Overthinking it.

The 5VZ is a reliable motor. Take care of it.

Add a heating element to the top tank and you can have fresh cooked glizzys while you drop your glizzys.

Yea I think it’s only a concern if you go chasing big power gains

I've done a mod or two
The 5VZ is a very reliable engine, but yeah it isn't built for big power really. The heads are an excellent design from Yamaha that can probably take quite a bit of porting and larger lift cam. But really I wouldn't do that to it, it's nice being non interference. The rods aren't super large, the crank is a cast unit, and the main bearing girdle is very small. No oil squirters for piston heat management and it has been known to have combustion chamber hot spots that can contribute to detonation. Good engine, and the rods are okay size (as compared to a 2UZ are larger given the sizes of the combustion chambers), but not gonna make a ton of power safely, leave that to the 2RZ or 3RZ.
