A part recall doesn't reflect much on the suspension design, moreso on the part itself having a defect, notice how the majority of years were unaffected?

 

The recall wasn't due to the design, it was due to a certain batch of LBJs getting a scratch/knick or something on the ball joint itself during manufacturing. Other than that the recalled ones were exactly the same as the years before and after (until the 2nd gen Tacoma)

 

The BJ recall was not about the design. It was about a manufacturing flaw in the ball itself. IIRC, it was scratch or something similar that happened during production. Only a few trucks were effected. The recall was based on vin#.

roger that, I was confusing it with the frame recall which I think was also only for the 01-04s since they bought back the older ones.

 

Balls on the brain around here.

 

There's nothing wrong with a warranty I guess, but I'd rather just look for clean used cars with good maintenance histories and no mods.

I'm willing to fix little things here and there, but $450 for a couple sensors you have to tear apart the whole top of the engine to replace was a hard pill to swallow. Not trying to complain, it just is what it is I guess.

 

Speaking of balls, I have 30,000 miles on my 0EM 555 ball joints.

 

I had to unfollow the 1st gen Tacomas FB page because it is literally a barrage of LBJ failures and questions about LBJs every.single.day.

People think TW is bad with people not searching, my god that page is the worst. Literally just scroll down to the post underneath and find your answer lol. Had to unfollow it.

 

Facebook is like virtual Walmart nowadays.

 

It makes me wonder what will happen when Toyota discontinues the OEM ones for us, people will flock to the 555s but who knows how long they'll be around.

Can you imagine all these trucks eventually just running AC Delco LBJs, it will be like a population thinning epidemic. Stopping to change them with each gas fill up on every road trip

 

The market will step in for a solution.
