Is a Land Cruiser on your radar? 100 series maybe (or an 80 if you can find a clean one)? 4th gen 4Runner would be nice too, or a GX470. Unless you wanted a manual.

this is why the 3rd gen T4R 1996 - 2000 is what I'm looking at, after 2000 they stopped putting them in

the downtime and space to make that happen are not on my side, in a perfect world where I had another daily for work and a real driveway (or garage, a man can dream) then perhaps. I don't think the manual ones are as rare as sometimes made out, like I mentioned before I see them pretty regularly. But they are rare enough that the people selling them usually include that factor in the price so just waiting for the right one to come along.

I know the rear locker stopped after MY2000 for 3rd Gen.

Wasn't aware the manual transmission was as well.

    yup 2001-2002 no more manual 3rd gens t4rs :(

kind of surprising they kept it going for the Tacoma this long, though I kind of doubt the 4th gen will have one.

scratch that, I highly doubt it will. With the hybrid and electric trend going the way it is

I feel like an 80 series is only good for small chilluns anyway. That back seat aint big. I'd opt for a 4th gen 4runner, all the fun of a GX without any of the cost.

I really miss my 98 T4R, manual with the 4cyl

But at the same time my Tacoma is becoming a 4r more and more each day. Interior is 50/50 and I just ordered 4r tierods to go with the 4r balljoints I got for free

Not sure I had mentioned it in my 4Runner thread but the 4th Gen did cross my mind.

However, I didn't feel like I gained much more cargo going from one to the next.

Land Cruiser's cargo area is awesome compared to the 4R, especially the interior height.

But yeah as far as seating, definitely made for the little guy.

Going from an access cab Taco to any 4R though...gain a shit ton of cab space.

His daughter is as tall as Dan.

My thought is for someone who doesn't necessarily want a land cruiser you get the same interior size (people like to clown the 80 series for being big and heavy but it's only 3" wider than a 1stbgen taco and a bit taller) with the runners back seat and none of the cost involved in having a land cruiser.

A V8 and a slightly more modern interior does make for a comfortable drive.

I've got a T4R lower control arm on the drivers side of my Tacoma so I'm kind of right there too?

retained the Taco LBJ though so I didn't have to have two different outer tie rods going on, that would probably make fore some weird handling. Although the irony is that it still didn't fix the alignment problem.

You couldn't pay me to take the 2UZ version of the 4Runner. The 1GR is what you want. It makes pretty much the same power as that dinky little V8 and saves more fuel in the process.
