How's the Merc, weather is beautiful this morning so I'd assume you took it to work.

@Speedytech7 do you know how much it'd be to rebuild or at least refresh a 1FZ-FE, compared to say, a 5VZ or 3RZ?

My 97 had so-so compression in the 120s and 130s, and it seemed down on power (I needed to grab 2nd and mash the throttle at 4k rpms to maintain speed up most hills). The bearings seemed good from the oil analysis, but how much would it be for new rings, seals, and gaskets?

It feels like it could allegedly hit triple digits easier than before and that across the rev range it gained more power. Sounds strong and healthy and is smooth as butter. Glad it was relatively easy and cheap fix. New plugs, injectors, coils and filters for $800 isn't a bad deal and should last me some time.

I really liked the Quick tricks transmission only tune. Stock power with more drivable shift points

The 1FZ would cost me a lot to refresh entirely, probably a 4-5k investment for me to do it all myself. The 5VZ, shit I could hock upgrade parts into during the rebuild and still come out below 2k doing it myself

Yea the 1FZ seems like a really expensive engine to rebuild for it still being such a basic straight six motor. I’ve seen people get quoted 20k and up for a full rebuild at a reputable shop, or 3500 just for the top end. Meanwhile low mileage 5VZs are a dime a dozen by comparison.

Us too. 1990 2wd 3/4 ton with a 454. Pulled a lot of Boy Scout equipment and the Austin healey with it. Pretty solid overall, even had the rear ac unit

Do the 1st gen non-tilt plastics fit on the tilt column?

Aside from the lack of holes for the adjust lever

I mean, the answer probably won't stop me from buying a bare tilt column on eBay but

She'll be gifting it; she said she would sell it as she has no use for it but that my FIL would've wanted me to have it, and she would want me to have it as well.

We'll be doing the $500 "value" cause even as a gift...you need to put a value in said line.

California charges sales tax on property value even if it was free :jerkoff:

But yeah I'll definitely be asking questions! I'm not above anyone and will happily ask stupid questions

    Thank you!

This must be quite the ongoing problem. We were talking about non tilt columns in this thread back in 2019 LOL

Lots to learn in the 6.0l world

Pick up a scanguage and monitor EOT, ECT (the delta tells you if the oil cooler is clogged), FICM voltage, and HPOP

    I hadn't even considered it

I was talking to black dawg about cutting up my seat for more leg room and he asked if I had a tilt column. Seems a little easier for my low energy state
