This sounds unpleasant. Nothing like having some loud ball slapping sex with your parents hanging out in the next room over.

yeah as long as the kids aren't total bums and are working toward their goals I would have zero problem with them sticking around after 18. I mean you're just finishing high school at that age, you're still a kid. Kicking your kids out at 18 is an antiquated idea. Allowing them to save some real money while finishing their education or starting on a career path, if I'm able to do that for them I definitely will.

Makes me think of all the times my ex and I at 18 yrs old would do it in the TV room with her parents in the living room across the way, christ how we never got caught is a small miracle

but there was the time a cop caught us in my dad's F-150 up in the mountains, that was fun

The ones I know that have done it have well paying jobs and are on solid ground, it just really has helped them not take on more debt. Two I know who have a wife and kids built houses on land that's shared with their parents house, which saved them a ton. And not like right next-door or anything, not a bad setup if ya have the land and the cash. One thing about being here is that it's nice to help my folks out and see them regularly, but if I wanted to buy a house nearby, I better start playing the lotto. They got in decades ago for fraction of what you need now.

Sometimes I look back and I'm like, they had to have known what we were doing. They just didn't want to know know, so no doors were ever opened haha.

Totally. Another ex of mine had a dad who was super strict about me not being allowed upstairs where her bedroom was, I was only able to go into her room after we had been dating for over a year and the door had to be wide open. We were both 19 or 20 years old then, but she was Colombian and the youngest of 3 daughters so.....yeah. The fatherly watchdog mentality was crazy strong in that household haha.

Still didn't stop us from doing our thing of course but you learn to get creative

@Speedytech7 I know you've pretty much written off that table (average used price is 2200-2500) but here's a feature I knew I had but never used until today.

Firecontrol is what the table uses, in lieu of Mach 3 like other companies (big step up).

One function I finally used today was generating quick tool paths within Firecontrol with options to implement my initial torch height sensing, torch speed, distance, and direction.

This made cutting down my 4' x 4' down into smaller pieces much faster and easier for throwing in the rig to recycle.

Definitely a cultural thing. A Panamanian girlfriend had a real strict dad who didn't like me much, not allowed in bedroom with closed door, but also let me sleep in their entertainment room at other end of the house. No idea how that made sense.
Every white girl I dated nobody cared what we did lol

yeah, her sisters were in their late 20s and early 30s and still lived at home too. As I recall, he was adamant that they had to live at home until they got married. I think one of them eventually moved out on her own though, and I know my ex did too eventually.

Wow, yeah that's next level. I didn't experience that haha. He was controlling though, and very adamant about her going to college in state I think. He was certainly happy I went to other side of the country I'm sure.

Yeah...as a parent of one day young adults, I like to think I'll be somewhere in-between those two extremes of being naive and being too strict. Both have unfortunate consequences I think.

Everyone knows kids are gonna do what they want to do regardless, I sure as hell did. Just gotta raise them with enough good sense and let them figure out life's crazy ups and downs out on their own. I'll be there for whatever guidance I might be able to give.

I certainly can't tell them "don't do anything I wouldn't do" because I did some crazy shit. I'll probably say 'don't do anything your mother wouldn't do' lol.

I think that's the healthiest approach. And to not unload on them when they do eventually do the things. It always helps when the parents have had an adventurous life in those ways because they have that experience to go on and understand the headspace their kid is in.
