I had my Gary Fisher stolen in Bakersfield off my rack while I was passing through. I wasn't even gone but a few minutes. Fuck that place

You’ll be fine then. If you want an in-line filter go ham, but personally I wouldn’t run one just because it restricts flow and adds another point of failure.

I wonder since my 2001 already had a frame replacement would I still be able to get a new one if needed to?

I have similar thoughts as I have a 278k mile rig and have found only the most basic of maintenance was ever performed. My conclusion is a few drain and fills over the next year should get the fluid back to where it should. I will not flush as it is not worth the risk.

Are we talking about real Rolls-Royces, or post-2003 BMW-built Rolls-Royces?

The magnefine filters are always a good option on a high mileage trans or PS system. Theyre very safe too, if they clog they just bypass.

The L410 is the one to have. It's reliable and bolted to a GM transmission. The gaskets are pretty substandard in some respects, but it can be an oil tight engine if it's looked after properly.
