@Wulf thanks again for stopping buy and helping fix those potholes on my street! My neighbors appreciate it too.

@Ozark_RegCab I remember @Kwikvette did extensive research into front lockers. I also spent a lot of time talking to Cruiser experts and different people to arrive at the Eaton/Harrop choice.

Georg Esterer at Cruiser Brothers provided a great deal of insight into lockers. Fortunately, locker technology has changed in recent years. New designs have made improvements. I got to meet Georg in person last year at the Cruiser Crawl in Hot Springs. He'll be back in mid_October if you would like to come down to hang with us.

It’s supposed to make the front diff stronger apparently.

Writing a letter of recommendation about myself for my boss is weird.

and he told me to do it, not just recommending myself.

I've had good luck with mine. Never a seconds trouble. Since I do so many water crossings, I was changing diff lube every 6 months. Now I've extended the change cycle to a year. So little wear and graphite on the magnetic drain plug that I feel comfortable with an annual change cycle. I have pictures of all that on my other computer. I would use the front locker on average once a month. It really adds more stability during river crossings. While it looks like I'm floating in deep water, the river/creek beds are extremely rocky. When I kick it on, it pulls me across with less bounce or sketchy steering.

This thread popped up on Mud with some good reading. I've driven more of the crazy hairy trails in the Ozarks than most people with IFS that I know. Many ATRAC 100s and some triple locked 80s. The ATRAC buds always make it through with me in the lead. Though, I've been able to make it through a situation with east and reach the top of a grade a touch faster than folks without lockers. If you are really planning to make a long term commitment to a 100 series. There is nothing wrong with buying a 98-99 model at a discount and then adding an Eaton later.

Here is a good video on why. Basically it wraps the spiders in a cage to reduce deflection as well as adds 2 more spiders so you have 4 vs 2 which also helps reduce deflection and distribute load better.

And if you ever sell your e locker, make sure both the box and the plastic semi-transparent bags are opened otherwise you'll get banned multiple times trying to sell it on here :bananadead:

@Ozark_RegCab When I was showing out at Jambo last year and got into a death bounce, it was the CV axle that blew and not the front diff. I carry a spare axle, so an hour later I was back on the trails. I would much rather blow a CV than a front diff.

It’s weird how you don’t hear about 2-pinion front diffs breaking on an 80 series unless someone’s crawling on 37s, but some people would make you think the 100 series front end is made of glass. I’m sure it gets overblown on Mud like most things.

Pretty sure all 80 fronts are 4 pinion

Yep. There is a difference in weight and torque that may factor in somehow. I know your OR style is not about pushing limits like mine. I seriously doubt that you will have a problem. The adrenaline rush from these deep water crossings is addicting. The one thing you cannot have is a mechanical failure that would leave you sitting in the river to flood. The riverbed is rough AF where you need extra stability to keep on a line.
