I hear everyone is excited about the return of the MRE Pizza.

If you like MRE's, this is one of my favorite YouTube channels. He eats rations as old as the Civil War, to WWII, to current day.

Yeah, came here to post and shit on the 2nd gens. Bought a 2nd gen pre-runner on a screaming good deal. Hated that truck, I was coming off a 2jzgte swapped lexus sc300. Ended up selling the Taco for a beat to fuck FJ cruiser (bought it was 280,000 sold it with 490,000 miles). Then got my WRX and then wanted a truck again so got a 1st gen this time. Actually like the 3.4L better than the 4.0l in the 2nd gens.

No kidding. I'm surprised you've remembered your password for 11 years.

What was so bad about the 2nd Gen? Genuinely curious, I've always wanted a 2012-2015 DCLB/SB.

Do yourself a favor and buy this, I couldn't have done it without this tool. The parts store rental kits don't usually come with the right fittings.

I use it all the time for a variety of things including driving seals. Worth the money IMO.

Pick up a pitman puller or three prong puller to separate the UBJ from the UCA. Some people have luck with a big sledge, but I like the puller better.

At the time, gutless wonder would have been my chief complaint. I had unreasonable expectations though, I'd probably enjoy it more now. But my SC was getting around 450-500 at the wheels so by comparison, the truck felt like it was barely moving and floated around the road like a damn houseboat. Again it wasn't a fair comparison. I'm a computer nerd (CS major) so had an encrypted excel file for all my passwords, now I just use lastpass (which I migrated all my passwords over to).

Gutless Wonder, that's a new one haha. I should start calling my truck that.

Seriously, if you want to experience gutless wonder go drive a 3RZ Auto

Why'd you decide on a first gen?

San Diego parking made us decide on a 1st gen. We got the truck so we can lug scuba gear around dive sites, without making either of our cars smell like sea lion shit. This meant parking in popular beach areas either on the street or in the small as lots, so the 1st gen was perfect. Hauls all our crap without complaint and still fits in most spots and parallel parking is pretty easy. It's secondary purpose is to haul shit up to some car camping spots, and for that I reallllllllllllly want to do the the prerunner to 4x4 conversion but wife wants to own the truck for a few years to get our money out of it and prove its reliability before fucking with it more.

Do it man. I converted my truck to 4x4 in December of last year for around $1,500. Happy to answer any questions you may have about it.

I putt around San Francisco/Oakland with my truck as my DD all the time, and it definitely helps when parking and maneuvering.

It will take a bit to convince the wife that its worth it. Right now shelling out cash left and right for either unknown or due maintenance items. My wife is super fucking smart but car stuff isn't her area of expertise. So she just sees cash flowing into the 15 year old truck that we just bought not really getting that it's due and and that a little cash now means we have a truck for out great great grandchildren. Cause right now on the docket is lower ball bearings, radiator, all fluids (200k mi), plugs/wires, and carrier bearing.

Edit: oh and need to do the valve cover gaskets. For some reason, that one scares me.

All that stuff is a piece of cake. Tip for the carrier bearing: buy from Spicer the OE manufacturer for 1/4 the price. The Toyota part number and name is even imprinted on it.

Converting it to 4x4 will actually increase the value. Plus you're paying for RWD insurance on a 4x4 truck since it came RWD from the factory. People have done it for as cheap as $1k.
