And vacuum switching valves, and the wiring/electrical associated with them.

Electronic ADD is so much easier. Just a few wires, maybe a relay, and a switch.

I don't see the point of half assing it, and converting to ADD later. Just choose one.

You realize there's wiring and switches and relays associated with those valves right?

Just pick one. I don't see the point.

You'll probably end up with an ADD diff anyway, manual hub diffs tend to be more rare. It took me forever to find a manual hub axle tube, and I paid out the ass for it.

If it was up to my wife ADD with push button 4wd, if it was up to me J-shift and manual hubs so hopefully mind some middle ground.

J-Shift and ADD is the middle ground.

J-Shift and Manual Hubs is what I did. It will be easier to find ADD parts since you can use 3rd Gen 4Runner parts too. I have a 1996 4Runner front differential in my truck since my gear ratio was rare in the front.

You're introducing so many different factors here, transfer case switches, relays, wiring, vacuum switching valves, vacuum lines...

You understand what I'm getting at?

Yeah that's kind of what I am thinking. She used the J-shift in my FJ cruiser and it wasn't the end of the world.

To this day, I've never seen a 4WD swap with someone using a pushbutton 4wd t-case.

I like J-Shift, I don't get the point of push-button 4WD. Just pull the damn lever down.

ADD is far more common than Manual Hubs, but Manual Hubs are easier to install.

Push button is something I can probably negotiate away from, ADD not so much. Not nearly as many resources about the conversion doing ADD as manual hubs since they are so much easier, but I have time.

I don't see merit to your argument, Manual Hubs will always be easier to install than an ADD system.

Here's the parts I used, and what I paid just as a basis for some research. Assumes J-Shift and Manual Hubs.

I didn't included some things I splurged on, like I had my manual hub dials snadblasted and powdercoated, and I also bought brand new Manual Hubs to rebuild my old ones with (new pawl, clutch, springs, o-rings, and snap rings)

Doesn't matter. You don't even need to worry about actuating anything with Manual Hubs. A manual actuated differential defeats the purpose of being convenient.

I just don't see the point of making the differential cable driven. An e-locker is understandable, but not a differential actuator.

That's why you keep them locked if you know you're going to need it.

Why do you think I've never been off-road yet?

We just lock em at the beginning of wheeling trips and unlock em at the end. Then I can control 4WD from the shift lever in the cab the whole time
