I haven't driven a 100 series, only been in one, but can say holy fuck the 80 series flexes so well.

They drive nice on the road, IFS is always an improvement in onroad performance... Minus I beam suspension. But the t bars scale weirdly in spring rate as you crank preload to compensate for weight and larger/heavier tire rebound becomes something you have to think about. And there's just not much to give as far as travel goes compared to an 80... their rear end has to do all the work

    Yeah

I do agree with some points you made about the 100 series.

I won't ask why the dislike for the 2UZ though; for me it's great.

Better gas mileage than the 5VZs I've owned, especially more than the 1FZ. Definitely an "old man's V8" based on the cams and tuning they went with cause it's just low end torque.

Ever driven an L98? They were all about low end torque (which was stupid fun in autocross) but immediately ran out of steam at 3k rpm and up.

But a 100 series for off-road? Definitely rather have an 80 series 100 times over.

I'd be fine with another one for an on-pavement / road trip truck. But again, there are better options for those purposes, which is why they're hard to justify. I still have a little nostalgia for them which is why part of me wants to keep considering one, but when I think a bit more critically it's just a silly choice. I mean, lotsa my choices are goofy, but some can be worse than others.

The ZF 6 speeds of old were bulletproof and a godsend in the old C4

They weren't available in many years and I had one in an '89 I tracked with

Tell you what, the fucking gearing was on point too, especially compared to the Doug Nash 4+3 during that time

The only downside to the 2UZ I can think of is that the conrods apparently are not that strong.

People still boost them successfully; they're strong.

Just heavier than a 1UZ and especially the SUV/truck variants don't make as much power cause they're meant for payload/towing.

Plus I gotta throw a jab in there; think you'd look funny in a 100 series

The way I see it, Land Cruisers weren't designed to be rock crawlers anyway, just for prolonged use on rough dirt roads in the global south. The radius arms will never flex as good as a 3-link. Jeeps may have shitty build quality, but they really work well on technical obstacles.

I've never had any Vette experience and I'm sure that's a separate world from their general offerings. My GM ownership has been an Express van and my old Sierra pickup. They were both problem free while I had em. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either.
Actually, fuck, forgot my first car...the family Chevy Astro I inherited when I got my license, that thing was great. But everything's great when you're 16 haha.
Are you going to drive the 'vette again or just sort of keep things on ice?

Have you seen the crazy shit people have scaled with the stock radius arm setup?

The 80 series is so capable, that's where you really need a truly experienced off roader to start pushing it to its limits.

The 5VZ isn't a favorite of mine either, I'm not really a V6 guy TBH but it makes appropriate power for its displacement and for the EPA rating of the time it did decent. My gripe with the 2UZ isn't longevity, it's a toyota v8, it lasts fine as it should... this shouldn't be lauded in a toyota... if it was an audi or a range rover it would be worthy of praise for that. My gripe is that it's gutless for its displacement and without completely tearing it apart and building it afresh, there's nothing you can do about that. Toyota corrected the issue in the car versions... but refused to in the truck version for some reason. Toyota could have done so much better with their truck V8 and just didn't, we got a middling mid size V8 that makes about the same power as a present day camry. The LC gets a minor pass since it was released before the 1gr came out but all the others don't because the 1GR is the better engine in all respects. Toyota never really did get V8s right either though, the later 2UR and 3UR finally got the performance and the strength but somehow combined can't hardly stay in the teens for MPG.

    Dang you lucked out!

Not that those particular models were bad but just in general with their autos

I'd need more space, extra time, and monies if I fuck with the Vettes

Still need to put some money in the F250; my MIL did me a big favor and covered the tags

Evidently less than the engine heat
    My EFI fuse though

...was not the problem. Might be my Walbro 255 crapping out because now I don't even hear the 3sec prime

EFI relay is fine too, just tested
