    I'm just not really a fan of that on this truck. It's also a pretty deep impact in the middle of the spider crack. If this was my 99 sure I'd just run it until the windshield caved in on me.

    $0 glass deductible on all my vehicles. About to have the Land Cruiser windshield reinstalled because a corner developed a leak. The Taco has a huge rock chip right now but it isn't spreading and it is well outside the FOV so I'm letting it ride ATM

    Yeah seriously, this was before laser engraved keycaps so to not have letter wear on an IBM is pretty rare

    I'm sure you know this already, but it's a good idea to hand the glass installer a copy of the FSM page(s) for windshield installation for the 80.

    My local glass guy has been in the business for decades and had never done an 80 before. He came out to work on my '93 and was grateful to have the documentation. And not the "oh thank you mr customer for showing me how to do my job" type of thankful. Since then, he's become the go-to local guy for LC glass, especially 80s and 100s. Great shop. They patched up the chips in my '87 FJ60's original glass very close to new. Which I'm told is hard to do when the chips are decades old.

    Yeah the Safelite guy was actually familiar surprisingly, since 100 series are the same he knew to shoot some of the urethane in the molding but I guess this one corner didn't get enough. I will have him do it again though, he was super chill when I handed him the FSM pages. Right now I am just leaving a rag in the corner, not gonna have the glass guy come and do it in the snow.

    Hundy's have that brutal trim strip that goes just up over the roofline. Way back when, before I knew any better, I let some meth head glass guy work on our first 100, and he fucked it all to hell.

    Leaks sucks.

    @ace_10

    If you have any advice for changing the heater core on an 80 series I'm all ears, I've done 3 taco ones and they were super easy. My heat is getting weak, but I think it will make it through winter. I am kind of planning to tear the engine down for the HG job (coolant is always clean and it isn't burning any but I suspect I actually need a valve regrind and possible a replacement exhaust valve so might as well). Thought that would be as good a time as any to do the heater core and rear heater delete.

    TBH, the most "wrenching" on the LCs I do is fluids, electrical and cosmetic stuff. For Toyotas, I'm fortunate to have a two dedicated local shops. I've only got one 80 RN, and it's a garage queen that only comes out a couple times per year, lol. Too afraid to drive her.

    I'm much more willing to tear into my '95 Taco since it's pretty basic and parts availability is still mostly good.

    That's fair I suppose they're getting less common in clean condition. Mine is really clean but I still use it as a winter trail breaker (front a rear lockers are a delight), tow pig, and summer weekend driver. It was my daily for the longest time too but it's been retired from that. It's been excellent for many years and now it is needing some mechanical work that I am happy to provide. I have never taken things to a mechanic, just not worth it for me since I don't really "need" the vehicle for anything, it can afford to be down while I work on it. I only worry about it from a sentimental point of view, I wouldn't ever sell it.

    A common problem I see with 100 series windshield installation is the rivets are replaced with screws. Then the screws rust and leave dimples. I will need to get my 100 windshield redone by someone who knows that they are doing. I had wind noise of the passenger side A pillar until installing a snorkel deflects wind away from the problem area. I can't complain about it now so I may wait until I pick up a crack from off-roading to get it done properly.

    That must be the trim strip he was talking about, 80s just leave the gasket molding bare, no rivets or screws anywhere.

    This windshield has been screwed. Screws need to be removed and the channel cleaned and any rust removed. I know of a place in Dallas that knows how to replace a 100 series. FJ Cruiser windshields have special needs as well.
