It was kind of fun in a "I really hope this means I don't have to take the dash out" kind of way

Yeah, that would not be fun.

In other news, I fixed my driver side headlight today. Found the igniter and the bulb base had melted, presumably due to arcing. Very fortunate there was no fire in there. I suspect it was an installation error on my part because I had been futzing with it before the trip.

I was wondering if it'd get lonely or restless being out there for nine months. Apparently you need to get a Starlink subscription just to get WiFi. I'd be 4x4ing and hiking like every day though.

Are there a lot of washboard roads there? Those always make me cringe, especially driving on them everyday.

    Stuff. Also things.
Do yourself a favor: Stop asking questions here, and go read Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey.

It’s an autobiographical work covering Abbey’s time as a park ranger in Arches in the fifties, way back before the national parks became the overcrowded mess that they are currently.

He basically lives in a trailer by himself for a season and describes in detail what that life and solitude is like. It’s an absolute classic, and if you love the desert like I do, it’s mandatory reading. His trademark snark and sarcasm are worth it just on their own.

And if you have an aversion to washboard roads, you may not be a good fit for the desert backcountry. Sorry.

Probably a bit lonely, would need to be happy with your on company a lot and really independent. You'll be hours from the nearest small town, several hours from amy real city. But you'll get to experience one of the most amazing places more in depth than most people!

Take some spare OEM LBJs and some known repair items. I usually carry spare wheel bearings, cv axel and a u-joint. Did you recently replace your fuel pump?

Maybe next year (or the next) I can hit every Toyota TLCA sanctioned event in the US. That would keep someone busy from March through October. I bet I will know somebody at each one of these events.

Not sure about the fuel pump. I’d guess not. I try not to run it low on gas. The PO replaced the fuel filter though.
