1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

Belt looked fine, sounded like it seized though. Made a lot of fun screeching/banging noises before the battery light came on and power steering went (I assume the water pump would have stopped turning too?), pulled it into a store parking lot and shut it off within a minute. Used my USAA insurance benefits to get it towed. I could get it to start again to move it with a low idle but didn't want to risk it overheating.

Timing sucks because we need it for our trip to Big Bear tomorrow morning thru Monday, so I have it a shop near our house to put a new one in while I'm at work today.

I guess it could have been worse though and happened this weekend with the kids in tow

 

Damn, didn't even think to see if it took the CF cards I'm used to using... takes dual SD memory cards. Seems most DSLRs only take SD cards now, used to be only the point and shoots used those

 

Yeah SD is standard since like the last 5D model, which is old as fuck now

 

I've been using the 5D Mark III since we got in...2017 I think...but it has a slot for both.

It has been a workhorse for sure, I'm fairly certain it's gone at least 2x over it's shutter life expectancy

Crazy though if I went in person the cost difference -

Package costing $26 to go to NJ via UPS (5 business days), yet in person that cost would be double (over $58 or so IIRC), then from there you get nickel and dimed to go 2 days faster so close to $70 just to skip a few stops

Because of this weekend, said package will take 7 days to arrive from date of delivery

It's alright, the dude just told me his son is looking forward to it like crazy

My dino sales all stem from kids being the reason why they've sold

 

It's a bit confusing. The power steering is on the outer belt and the alternator is on the inner belt. The AC belt is the middle belt. It is hard to picture how the alt circuit could effect the PS that way.

 

If it seizes it slows down the center bearing pulley. Which both things pass on.

 

At this point anyway it is looking like I'm taking the truck up tomorrow and putting chains on the wife's Rav, fun. Be good for the Tacoma to stretch her legs some more anyway, poor girl doesn't get out much anymore

Timing belt is snapped me thinks, I don't have any help here right now so pushing it down the driveway and getting it into the shop is kind of out of the question. Do you remember Wayne, Big Dan's Friend? He's coming tomorrow and I'm going to help him do a fuel filter and gear oil change on his truck. I'll probably ask him for help getting the Corolla into the shop and I'll tear it apart

I was thinking about this the other day (getting an unpowered rig into the garage). A couple of strategically placed winches might do the trick.

 

Yeah I was thinking of pushing it down the driveway with one of my old dismounted mud terrain tires strapped to the front of the truck and then using the truck's winch to pull it in to the shop. I decided none of that sounds like fun when it's 3° out though... Haha

 

Yeah, that doesn't sound like it would be any fun at all.
