The distance from plate (sitting on the mobo) to the bottom surface of the heatsink is approximately 0.13"

The surface of the motherboard to the top surface of the CPU is 0.34"

Should be able to wrench a clamp down 130thou. Doesn't seem extreme to me. I remember putting on the old AMD athlon heat sinks that went further than that and those processors didn't even have heat spreaders so if you slipped the die cracked.

I should add the "slots" are normally what make up to allow the loose fit to clamp onto the mounting plate; the slots are small as fuck and allow no play even just mounting the heatsink to the plate itself outside and off the motherboard

Read the added post; I remember when you put one clamp on...you swing over the heatsink to put the other on

You can't even bring down the heatsink flat with even one clamp on

I read it, I've never moved the heat sink when doing these seems like a recipe for scratching something. Just set it flat on there, fasten the one tough side of the clamp without a tang first. I'd put the clamp side with the handle on the side you can reach easier and press the fucker down with a good screwdriver or other tool you're comfortable with. Your pics look normal to me

GX was nice on paper, and its a corporate car so the records are stellar. But I dunno. They're nice, bit piggy as far as shape. I think they're close to 100s in size, but sure felt bigger on the outside and smaller inside. V8 feels goo tho. Interior layout is good, not overloaded with tech. Not sure if I like the swingout hatch or not.
Also, had a bit of a smell lol. I feel like you should get in a car and either not smell anything or smell a clean vehicle. You shouldn't be questioning the air. Probably a suit who sat in it daily for five years.

It's the fart gravy that gives it the signature smell

Bent the metal bracket on the heatsink, fits now

Only went that route cause...I noticed deep gouging on the plastic plate mount

This means the metal tabs on the heatsink were too far up/inward and pulling the plastic bracket into the metal heatsink so much it cut the plastic

I should've just guessed that was it, I didn't think I'd have to manhandle it though to BEND shit

Some cars have a smell. The AMGs I have had all smell like crayons on the inside. Might want to see if there's something similar to the GX? Also Carfax it and verify it wasn't somewhere that's had a hurricane.... undocumented flood cars are a real thing and could leave a funk in there.

German cars smelling like Crayons is just a thing. The rubber they use to hold together the insulation batting does that. The strongest are late 90s/early 00s VWs

We talk often about vehicles on here, and I see the many things you mention

I can't see you enioying a 470 series if that's what you looked at

See for a weirdo like me, I was more than happy daily driving a C4 (since the military) so an older, more technologically impaired vehicle suited me just fine

The 470 is great as a mom or dad vehicle with absolutely no frills

But you remind me of a C5 owner, in that you'll be happy if you had just a little more power and a lot more refinement for just a little more

I'd say you should check out the 460

Yeah VWs definitely fall into that category from experience. Its a local truck, clean history and CF. I also got the full history of it from Lexus by adding the VIN to my account on their site, which is a nice perk they have. I'd never buy a vehicle from Florida for example, unless I was damn sure of its history (or if it was so new it hadnt hit a hurricane season yet) Living though the season every year, thats always something I consider. CarMax is full of vehicles up here that have Florida origins.
Yeah it was a 2019 460. (I only looked at that one 470 because it was so cheap and mileage was reasonable, made it briefly tempting.) Been just casually looking at these.

I saw that, all 5 marines confirmed dead unfortunately :( they still don't know what happened exactly, but the storm was likely to blame. Tragic story

It was a random thought I had too just 2 weeks ago when we were all talking about long flights across the world

Thought to myself "fuck, imagine if a plane of a bunch fo Marines went down"

I mean we had our platoon (32-34 Marines) plus administrative Marines and whoever else hitched a ride with us all coming from Germany to Maine

Flying VMC, at night, in rising terrain, in what was known to be a strong storm cell, the big question will be why that bird was in the air to begin with. No distress calls points to CFIT accident. It is sad and seems like it could have been avoided. It's another black eye to the super stallion who has had several accidents over the years, but I suspect they will find it was not a fault of the aircraft itself. Training is important but was the mission they were on carrying more importance than the risks involved? We may never know but can only assume.
