What do you think of a Tacoma or a Tundra for gardening, and light trailer towing duty?

I'll look into F150's. I don't know much about American trucks.

 

It's have to be really old to have a 727 still, like not leagl in Cali anymore old

 

He doesn't need a huge crazy powerful pickup truck. Something that gets good gas mileage, is easy to drive, can tow a light trailer, and is reliable. 1980's Dodge RAM is a little too much truck.

We live in the Bay Area so the smaller the truck, the better.

 

Tacoma is okay but they aren't really all that robust, they seem like they are because owners are obsessive about replacing things on them but under hard use, eh. It costs nothing to keep an f150 on the road, especially if it has the inline 6. 2wd tundy with the 3.4 would be okay too, the v8 is sturdy but it costs fuckloads to repair when something does go wrong

 

The a516 is similar for sure but way more failure prone as most thing built in late 90s and early 2000s we're for Chrysler. Any of their RE, or RH trans are garbage right from the factory too

 

I don't see many 3.4l Tundras, the v8's are way more common. I figured since every gardener I see uses a 1st Gen 5-lug, a beat up Tundra, or a Ford Ranger - a Tacoma or Tundra would be an ideal choice.

Any F150's to avoid?

 

It's a bit different when you plan for them to break every couple years and someone from the family digs another one out of nowhere to replace it. And hose clamps and chrome wheels don't count as fixing them contrary to what the dealers on the other side of the border tell you

 

Yeah the ones with the extended electrode spark plugs, somewhere in the mid 2000s those both started and ended.

 

What date range? Are you talking about the tenth generation (1997-2004) which was the transition from the boxy body style?

Sorry, not helpful, I just hate Fords. Not sure why exactly, I think I may have been brainwashed when growing up.

 

Seems like the Tenth Generation should be avoided, 1997-2004.

 

Its okay sometimes leading is the best way to follow.

Not the newer ones. They run torsion bars. You Want ones that are double i beam

 

One of the requirements was Automatic. He can't drive Manual.

 

Why?

 

Tell him dont be a pussy. Buy a manual 100 miles from home. He will know how to drive one by the time he gets back.

 

It's preference. You've never driven a Manual car in California rush hour.
