right? they showed me 2 screenshots and told me to architect it end to end from the mobile app implementation to the server side implementation. In what world would I come up with an acceptable solution without asking anything about the requirements?

also, fuck that guy for not stopping me and just telling me to stop asking questions and to just make assumptions instead of letting me waste an hour plus of everyone's time on that problem and the other 5 hours of interviews on top of it:rolleyes:.again, feel like he just didn't like me and refused to communicate whatever he actually wanted so he just let me fail

That’s just being set up to fail.

But I could also see some douche hiring manager thinking it was a viable ‘sorting function’ to find the best candidates. It actually is, just not for them, because if I assume that’s how they handle design projects, I’m running screaming from that place.

Sorry you have to deal with this stuff and I hope you land somewhere you’re valued!

I remember taking a ball busting technical interview once for a job in FL. I passed it and took the job. That company was everything but the technical environment they portrayed in the interview. I made hay reducing their monthly CPU clock time utilization shrink by 2/3. They were paying some number like $1,400 per hour for CPU clock time. It blew the budget of the division that was charging for the service the cut was so dramatic. Did I get anything for it in return? Nada. I left as fast as I could get away from it. It was a dying business anyway that was replaced by the internet.

It's funny that you say this...when I was going to bring up the stupid question of 'how does a programmer really market themselves?' sometime last week when jobs were mentioned.

Outside of saying - "I know x, or y" or that "I have experience working in...or I helped develop that"

Is that why they throw in the excruciating interview process at ya?

In another field (what I was trying to convey to your rich Arkansas buddy here) was that he wouldn't be cut out for it (trying to save him the headache and heartache). If you got the hustle (and you're organized), you can convey to the boss man how you're worth more and the figures you create for the company more than pay for your own wages. Worked perfect for me but sales has always been easy anyway.

I'm sure there's something to that extent for programmers and the like?

That's how sales is too, or many trades as well (when starting off).

Guess my own example mentioned was really when I demanded more money (did, and received it).

But yea the whole sink or swim is definitely a viable option in many industries.

Although with programmers, you'd be exposed to a lot of shit, have to sign NDA's and whatnot, and would probably cause more issue than it's worth to the employer especially if an applicant lied about shit?

Sink or swim worked to in the 17th century to determine who was a witch...if you sink and drown, you were a witch and haha now you're dead. If you swim and survive then you're a witch and now we're gonna hang you.

it's a time proven fool proof method

Right, just sucks when there a lot of regulations, fines and people asking what they can and can't do haha. Was all fine until I had to start putting my name on reports and what not
