Mechanics are busy, if you even gave him a whiff of non-urgency I'm sure you've been back burnered. Did you ever mention that you currently bike to work or have an SO with a vehicle?

I know. If anything @m3bassman was being too kind the other day. I've gotta be the dumbest motherfucker to walk the earth, at least when it comes to automotive things.

Perfect. Truck is worthless to me, I already have one. I just want a 5VZ core to put forged internals/ported heads on.

I biked away from the shop and nearly got heat stroke lol. But I'm hoping he just got distracted and isn't putting tons of hours into my truck without telling me, or maybe he just forgot to give me a call.

3.4s must be a dime a dozen out where you're at. I did have the thought of taking my truck up to NYS and finding a rusty truck with a good-running engine. There's a lot of Tacomas up there that were maintained well mechanically, but never undercoated.

Nah, where the trucks don't rust out there's no spares, people need to keep em on the road and not everyone is willing to rebuild so lots of core motors get scrapped. Finding cheap Toyota truck/tacoma parts isn't easy in a land where they never die, they don't even make it to the junkyards here. I've seen one 3rd gen 4runner in the last decade in our junkyard and I go regularly for other things.

Yeah I'd just want the truck and tranny

It'd sit in my garage, would be nice to have a motor out already to build one up

Get rid of all the carb shit, off road only

Lol CARB. Pretty sure when I visited the Mojave with my truck last winter members of the california air and resources board started having ulcers and loose shits.

I mean if they never die, why do they need so many new engines? Maybe take a trip to the northeast sometime and scour the scrapyards there.

    Could just be busy.

A diagnostic is low priority unless you came in with a smoking tail pipe and low/no coolant

Then he'd tell you it's a head gasket job right off the bat and you either accept [insert quoted figure here] or not so he can move onto the next paying job

    Time is money

    Unless @eon_blue moves to Oregon

I'll ask if I can use his address to register my vehicles there

They do lifetime plates for a disabled vet :anonymous:

I'm just hoping it's not another bad ECU, or something stupid like a bad ground that's easy to miss.

An engine that gives out at 380-500k is well beyond service life anyway for any make, but if everything else is fine... hell you've paid off the vehicle long ago and 4ish grand for a rebuilt unit is a drop in the bucket compared to payments on something new, where you're gonna lose 10k just signing documents anyway. Put another engine in and keep motoring, I just want to build my next engine myself with different parts or I'd buy an already rebuilt one too. 4-5k is nothing for a quality rebuild that's ready to drop in and I have one of the best rebuilders of Toyota engines in the country in my back yard (Sunwest, maybe they're buying all the cores actually)

I was thinking it could be jumped timing, but the mechanic said if that happened, it wouldn't be isolated to one bank. The only other thing I could think of was maybe a leaking fuel rail. It seems very unlikely for three injectors to all fail at the same time.
