It's ok to be frustrated, completely normal and no reason for anyone to give you shit about it.

Again, I'd go in only expecting to pay a diagnostic fee.

Just remain calm, and understand that all those fearful thoughts you keep drumming up are all just thoughts. You can't legally be charged for something you did not agree to get done. Not sure why you think that changes every time you go to a mechanic.

Yea I’m wondering if it’d be a good idea to show up unannounced to see what’s going on. I’m not gonna go in guns blazing or anything, but I suppose he could still take offence to it.

Don't show up unannounced, that'll annoy anyone.

But also, what do you mean guns blazing? You couldn't intimidate a fly

Just relax. If you spoke to the mechanic as recent as today or yesterday, just wait it out.

It doesn’t seem like it should take this long to check for fuel, spark, and compression tbh. Hopefully it’s not some weird electrical gremlin, but 9 times out of 10 misfires are mechanical, not electrical, if past threads are anything to go by.

What if they found your posts on mud, reddit, TW, and the FB group and figured they'd fuck with you by keeping your truck for an extended length of time :luvya:

Yes, we've seen the many different posts you've posted all throughout

He just got back to me and said it’s a timing issue he’s gonna look at more.

Not to be alarmist but is there any possibility I could’ve damaged the engine by driving it with the misfire? The oil was higher than I expected, which make me worry about fuel dilution.

There are cars being driven now, on the highway, with a misfire for god knows how many miles.

You're going to lose the rest of your hair worrying so much.

It was pretty severe though, with a blinking check engine light. I didn’t drive it that far though so hopefully it’s fine. I just wish he’d given me compression numbers.

Question - did you specifically ask for a compression test to be done?

I ask because some mechanics will have a separate charge just for this, if someone came in wanting one done (with no bearing on CEL or not).

I think I asked of he’d do it, and he didn’t really give me a straight answer. To me it’d be one of the first things to do when presented with a misfire on three cylinders, after checking for spark and fuel. I figured maybe he did and the results were ok, which pointed him to timing instead of head gasket or valve train issues. Or maybe bad timing affects compression too, I’m not sure.
