So the first mechanic left something behind the cover, a screw or socket and wrecked some shit when he tried to start it? Ask this new mechanic to document this with pictures and evidence. I would be curious what the first mechanic had to say....

Doesn't sound like a horrible price to me, assuming of course that it does in fact fix it.

I forget the whole timeline here, correct me if I'm wrong:

Fan bracket breaks, you fix it, runs shitty and misfires, take to first mechanic who replaces timing belt, doesn't run, 3 months pass, get it to this mechanic find and the crank gear is fucked?

Yea that’s pretty much it, and no the price isn’t too bad.

Did you drop something down the timing cover when you did the fan bracket replacement lol

Something in there might've been why you originally had that rough idle after the replacement, until it eventually did enough damage to give you a misfire?

Of course the 1st mechanic should've noticed something was amuck when he did the timing belt replacement.

the fan bracket letting loose can definitely fuck some shit up. on the 3.0l when mine went it locked up hard. sheared the key off the crank pulley before the belt snapped lol

This is what he told me after I asked what he thought. It’s basically a gamble that it’ll run fine after fixing the crank gear.

Am I missing something or aren't the 1st mechanics compression numbers, and any compression numbers this guy gives you completely useless if the timing is out of sync?

Yea he said cause the cylinders aren’t getting any gas right now due to the crank gear being damaged and the ecu not getting any data from it or something like that. So it’s likely that the compression would come back once it’s fixed, although not guaranteed I suppose.

Maybe I should have him do the bore scope test and leak down to make sure the cylinder liners and rings aren’t damaged?
