I think people hate on them because they were the most popular LCs of all time. I think the dot com bubble bursting in 2000 took a bite out of sales that year. Then the Sequoia hit in 2001.

Maybe I should get a Mule instead of a gasoline powered 4x4. I don't see a 20 mule team though. That was Furnace Creek in DV CA.

I've done a mod or two
Sequoia was a weird blow to the Land Cruiser 100 in the North American market. They introduced a large SUV with the same drivetrain and lower pricetag... I mean what did they think would happen. The LC100 was basically out of unique LC features by this point too, no solid axles, no full float, no front and often no rear lockers, really no justification for its high price tag.

I get along fine with SP as long as I can have a link mapped to my Quick Access area / folders. It looks like any other local directory. I stay out of the Web interface.

I've noticed a lot of 100 series owners also have BMWs. Something like a misunderstood pair.

Just higher build quality I guess. Sequoias are also kinda awkward looking things.

Not that BaT should necessarily be a benchmark but you can see all the completed auctions if you want an idea:

On a design/aesthetic note it’s interesting how differently a 2001 LC and a 2001 Sequoia have aged. At least to me, maybe I’m weird, but Sequoia looks very much of its time. Sorta like those early Expeditions.

A famous LC guy in the KCMO area just got his SAS'd 100 series worked out. Maybe I will see it at an event in the next year.

This one is a 5 speed AWD that sold for just over 13k with 68k miles! I definitely think that guy is way overpriced.

I think those arrived during the "look like Ford" jellybean shape era.

They are ok once you get all of the weird specialty tools needed for service. Like 54mm sockets, knurled end c-clip pliers, and the Slee needle bearing grease injection tool.

They seem to need about the same work as Tacomas if the same vintage. It’s just that parts and labor are a bit pricier and more difficult.
